I got a couple bags of MonsterRaxx in a couple weeks ago and finally got to start a new site last week. Ill share a few pictures of the site below. Never used a mineral before so hoping I did it right! I picked a spot where there was deer activity at the end of last season, there is a couple water sources not too far away, and oak and beech trees all around. This is a spot out behind my house that I haven't been able to do much scouting because I just moved here not too long ago. Just to make sure I'm doing it right, I scraped up the dirt, loosened it and spread the mineral out and worked it into the soil a bit.. Does that sound right? Also how long should I wait to go back and check it? I put out the molasses around the site just for scent, had good luck with it in the past. Here is the site looking at from the direction of the camera. Here it is looking back towards the camera. Last but not least here is the Black60 ready to be put to use! Any critiques and tips are greatly appreciated! Also this is my first time using a Covert camera, hopefully I have good luck with it! Read some great stuff about the cams and the monster raxx! Thanks guys!
Looks good! I poured a bottle of the liquid Monster Raxx attractant on an old rotting log two weeks ago, and I plan on checking the camera tomorrow. Pretty excited! Next time you head out there, you might think of taking a bottle of the MR liquid attractant out and pouring it on the log. They will literally eat the log, it's pretty crazy.
I am going to be putting another order in for some more bags for myself and a buddy wants some too. Im going to order some of the attractant and also some of the bear attractant as our bait season starts in about a month! Going to try whatever I can to get this stuff going!
That looks like you did it right. If you watch the Whitetails Inc episode from last week Todd gives out a coupon code for 25% off for his viewers Whitetails INC S3.E10 - "The Shed Head" on Vimeo
Looking good there HuntMaine, that's how you get it started!! In the future you may want to gravitate towards that big stump in the back ground like some others have mentioned. Just makes for a great site base where the mineral can leach into the stump and keep them coming even when you haven't been there to refresh the site.
Just saw that video today, perfect timing!! Is there a way to prep the stump or just dump the mineral on top of it and let it be?
I would just pick a side that you want the mineral to be concentrated on, perhaps a better trail camera angle that isn't looking into the sun. Just clear out all the leaf litter and pour on the edge, getting some onto the stump and the rest at the base edge of it.
I usually spray or pour the liquid attractant on the log or stump first and then pour the mineral on the log and around the edges. The liquid attractant helps the mineral stick to the log. I try to keep my Coverts pointed as much north or south as possible. Helps with the rising and setting sun distorting pictures. Also, with the black out cams you want to have a nice somewhat solid back drop. This helps the ir's reflect giving you brighter images. Looking forward to seeing the pics!
Your camera will tell you if you did it right! I can also say that place could sure use some chainsaw work. I'm thinking if you just went in and almost clear-cut an acre or two you'd have an awesome spot to hunt. I"m not sure if it's private ground or not, but if you want to improve the area at all consider it. Good luck!
I wish I could go in and clear it out, but I don't own the land and the owner wouldn't like that too much! Gonna give it a little more time before I go and check it out! Got a couple more to put out in an area we hunt quite a bit that I'm hoping will work well.
This x 1000 Apple Harvest is my go to! They will lick that thing to the ground. Its oil based to so you do not need alot every time it rains it will be refreshed!
I may have to get some of the Monster Raxx attractant as well. Checked the camera yesterday and only two videos of a deer walking by. Second video of the two the deer was within 10' of the lick just behind the stump but never went to the mineral...
