I am not great at judging black bears. My buddy drew an archery tag for WI this fall and we got a trail cam video of this bear. We are thinking he is a shooter, but we would like your opinions. He will gain a lot of weight before September, but we are still not sure.

Here is a link to the video:

    Any guesses?

I'm no expert either. But I'd say that's a pretty damn big bear!

Looks like a good size to me. Hard for me to tell w/o a better view of his head... but I'm no bear expert.

He's not a giant, but he's definitely a shooter. I would say he's about 300 lbs. Like someone said earlier it's easier to tell when you have a good shot of the head.

That's a dandy bear!!! He's got a very nice head on him. He'll easily push 300 pounds dressed by fall.

I would not hesitate to chuck an arrow at that guy.

And by not hesitate, I mean I'd try to hunt him all bear season where I hunt. Hell, a 200lb bear is huge for my area!

the best thing to use for judging bears is a barrell if you plan on using one this fall (if you can bait) i'd put it out now. i agree he is a big bear.

nice bear, we will keep it that way...my brother was patroling one winter day in burnett county wisconsin and there was a black bear that had traffic stopped on highway 20 both directions, his estimated weight was pushin 700lbs. Thats a giant for a black bear!!!
