Well after finally getting settled into the new house, the big warehouse move is finished at work and the gun store has moved into it's new location and added a full blown archery shop with a 40 yard indoor 3D range........ by golly I think I'm ready to finally hit the woods this fall. I've purchased a deep freeze and with the rising food costs I plan to fill it full of venison this year. Those of you who have known me over the years know I used to whack about every doe that walked by. But I got a taste of shooting big bucks and haven't looked back. Well. This year I am going back to my roots. Come hell or high water this is gonna be fun again. So... Without further adieu........ MoDoe is back! Does beware!!For you guys that rely on venison as a way to drop the grocery bill, what's your yearly goal? I'm thinking I would like to put four on ice this year.

Nice to see you're still around. Good luck this fall. I'd like to put away at least three this year.

I like to put at least seven in the freezer. The deer don't always go along with my wishes.

At today's gas price it costs $38 to drive to our hunting spot and back. Costs more if we stop at Hardees for lunch. We'd be better off buying a steer. :(

I was wondering how many I would have to harvest myself. My goal is 6. Last season the meat from one lasted about 2 to 2-1/2 months. I think I may actually buy a calf or two in a few years also. Good post.

Glad things are going well for you. I'd like to get 5-6 but will take more if possible. I share the meat with one neighbor and my family so as many as possible is good.

Hey Donny boy .... bout time! I need to tag out to satisfy my need for venison ... I feed my family and the folks that come to our Bible study and give some to a mission in the city ... I would take more if I could ... so if I get all my tags and fill one of my family's tag that would be 6 ... I got 5 last year and I am out already ..

My goal for this year is eight. I got seven last year and I'm still running out of venison. On a bright note, PT will be sending me some jerky this year so that'll help a little.
