in my opinion, if you already have an active scrape, leave it be. There was a detailed thread a cpl weeks ago about scrapes. I got some scents and gland from the deer farm and tried it on a scrape. I think I ruined it. Wore my hunting rubber boots, used gloves, etc. If u find a scrape don't f###k with it. just my 2 cents

Here's my experience and opinions. You cannot put a mock scrape in any place in the woods and the deer will just magically show up. That's not how it works. Instead understand how the deer in your area are moving to and from their feeding/bedding areas. Understand their routes and why they move. Once you find the routes, the scrapes lines will be easier to find. I like using scrape lines to my advantage because if you find a decent one, the deer will use it year after year and you can position yourself over it. You can also do this on rub lines.

Anyway, what I like to do is use the scrape lines and essentially add another deer to the pool by using deer urine. I prefer the 100% buck urine this time of year. I've used synthetic and that also does work well. I prefer the natural stuff though because I don't want to take any chances. I will apply the pee to the already established scrapes. For the natural pee I don't hang drippers. I don't want the stuff spoiling over the scrape. I'd prefer to just apply it naturally as if a deer were taking a leak.

I wear rubber gloves and boots, spray myself down, take a shower, spend as little time in the area as possible. Pretty much the same precautions you would take as if you were scouting or hunting. I like to use a spray bottle to apply the pee. I like this because I can stand away from the actual scrape. I also will never step into the scrape. I use a long sturdy stick to break up the dirt. I always bring the stick with me out of the woods. I pay attention to not touch much in the area with my hands or even brush my clothes onto trees, grass, etc. I'm not an expert and there are many others who know more about this stuff but I'm definitely learning the more I do it. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions! :tu:
