Thinking about getting some Tinks mock scrape. So does anyone have luck with them? I set one out last year in a rub line it got hit by 2 little bucks then it went dead and no buck were hitting it but the rubs were still being hit.

Did you buy the gel stuff? I did just to see what they were selling. I might as well have bought a bottle of Bo Peep ammonia.

Focus on an overhead licking branch and dont worry about the scrape below it. Set up a proper licking branch and the deer will prodcue a natural scrape under it for free. If you wish you can accelerate the process by raking away the leaves below the licking branch but you dont need to put anything in it.

I use BuckFever synthetics. There is BFgland for the branch and BFrut for the scrape.. Every dew or rain it refreshes pissing off the dominate buck in the area.. Its how I make big bucks hunt me. :) The real stuff sure its real.. But you have to refresh it introducing your scent into the area.. If you want a big mature whitetail? Synthetics is the only way to go.

So what is the best stuff to use when starting a new scrape? How do you use it? What time of day do you refresh the scrape area? Sorry for all the questions I've not made a mock scrape yet and want to do it right the first time so I don't scare off the deer. What about messing with a scrape already made by a buck? And one question I've been wondering about is...if I mess with a scrape already made by a buck and I get him to think there is a bigger dominant buck in the area than he is would he just leave? Any help and info would be greatly apriciated!

What are your goals? Yours is sort of a vague or open question. You may instead consider not making a mock scrape but instead make a mock licking branch and then have the deer make the scrape for you. You can (if you wish) scratch up the ground under the branch with a stick but you don’t need to put a darned thing on the soil to take full advantage of this tactic.

That too is pretty open ended. If you want to inventory the deer with a trail can go with the licking branch. If you want to draw deer to a specific spot, use a licking branch. Properly constructed and scented, the scrape shows up under the branch naturally.

When there is the least rick of bumping deer. That’s based on the travel patterns in your area and where you make the licking branch. Feeding are vs bedding area vs staging area vs travel corridor between feeding and bedding.

No worries. That’s how we learn the fastest.

I posted this here. It might help you with your goal.

I've had the best luck with my own urine. no joking. if you don't believe me and have a couple of trail camera's set up a Tink's Mock scrape and a Stickit05 mock scrape. give it a few day and check your cameras for the results. I've tried using store bought mock scrapes with little to no results, but as soon as I pizz on a freshly cleared area, BOOM goes the dynamite.

Thanks for the responses. I've been wondering about scrapes but didn't want to start a new thread. DnH_scents thanks for answering most of my questions, I'm wanting to use one in a kill spot to hunt close to my thing is on the brands of products for the licking branch, the only brands I see in the stores where I live are tinks.

I have had good luck using Smokeys pre-orbital and forehead gland on overhanging branches to get bucks on trail cams. I got video of a couple of nice NY public land bucks in September working my overhead branches but they have yet to open up the ground scrape. I imagine that in the next week or two, when the bucks start feeling frisky, the ground scrapes will be opened up. Usually once November gets here I'll use a Tarsal Gland Scent in the scrapes or on a drag when I hunt these spots. Urine scents suck IMHO.....think glandular scents!

I don't think tinks makes licking branch or glandular scents. They are a pee company.

In terms of licking branches I agree. There can be a time and place for pee but since any pee will work there is little reason to buy it.

I was looking into wind pro. It seems like a good concept but I haven't found much on it other than a few videos.

Buck fever synthetic scents have treated me very well. Like DnH said though the licking branch is the most important thing. Today I checked my 2 mock scrapes I started 2 weeks ago. Both have been hit by 3 or 4 year old bucks. I'm not exactly sure on their age but their no younger then that. They pissed and pawed away at the ground and hit the licking branch hard.

If someone was to transport a licking branch could they do it from anywhere on the property. What if there are some real scrapes close to your stand but not close enough to make a shot could you steal one of those? Does it matter if its not a mature buck branch?

Pretty much all deer will use the licking branch almost as a communication tactic... I don't think you will need to transport the branch itself. Just start a new scrape closer to you and in a high traffic area with an overhead branch and they should use it.

I do it all the time. (see my videos)

sure. Mess with their heads and make them hunt you.

There is no such thing. A licking branch is visited by many many deer. Its their social networking facebook page. Its meant to be used by many deer.
