I went and checked the Cuddeback today after leaving it out on a mock scrape for 15 days. I dont think i ever went this long during the summer, but work/school and actually hunting took up alot of my time :D Im pretty happy with my results, although the real big boys haven't shown yet. This mock scrape brought in everything, does, fawns, bucks, coyotes, turkeys, coon, squirrels...you name it, and it came. A couple turkeys first, that gobbler has a bullseye on him since our Fall season opened up on Saturday: Now some 1.5 year old bucks that were hounding does, the pre-rut is kicking in here in Ohio: This year im getting alot more doe traffic at scrapes then i have years past. No complaints about that, the real thing should help: This boy is the biggest i got on camera this week. Looks to be a nice 2.5, and he would be my best buck ever. He didnt stop to investigate the scrape though: More Does in daylight: More turkeys either fighting or dusting IN my scrape..great
Does, ambient wildlife..gotta love the quality and trigger time on this capture: Now my favorite series of photos from the week: Bastard, ive had them come to my scrapes before but never roll in them. and coyotes usually dont stick around for the camera..ill get him if he comes close enough. Boone and Crocket racoon. He must be part bear: Getting the scrape ready for the next week: Im beginning to think that the huge bedding area this is next too is a doe bedding area. Which is great for when the rut starts to kick in. Im going to be moving a stand to this location tomorrow possibly. Last year cfdjay nailed a doe near here, i may steal his tree this year
I like the very first picture of the turkey. He is staring RIGHT into the scrape like you placed a crystal ball on the ground lol. The yote pics are really cool, too. What did you put in the scrape? I think I am going to give one a shot when I go home next weekend (or refresh an existing one, that is what I have always done in the past). When I left last week I got about halfway back to school before I realized I forgot to put my card in my camera
Will, that's a very interesting picture. I didn't have any of this guy visiting the minerals this year, so he just kinda showed up. I had to lighten the picture a little so we could get a good view of his rack. Hes gonna be a nice buck in the years to come for sure, as long as me and Isaac dont get ansy and thwack him this year I have no doubt he would win our contest :D
That is cool how he is looking right at it. I didnt know turkeys used there sense of smell for anything, but they seemed to be attracted to it. I used some primos scrape pellets (deer turds in a bag) on this scrape and TINKS power scrape spray. I refreshed it with Tinks Buck urine today.
They sell deer turds in a bag? Here is a strange question.....If I find some fresh droppings, could I "relocate" them to a scrape and get the same results? Anyone know? I have used Tinks 69 in scrapes before with pretty good results. It really seems to increase activity.
I'd say the turkey are attracted more to the large bare spot of earth in the woods more so than the smell of the deer lure, but I could be bad wrong. Who knows, but good pics regardless! If I was a betting man, I'd say that buck better stay outside of bowrange if he wants to remain safe, I know I'd play hell trying to convince myself to pass him. lol
I thought they may be dusting or scratching in it from the one picture, or they could be fighting. Either way they are in the area and i have a tag :D And the more i look at that buck, the more i keep thinking the arrow is released if he offers me a chance :p
I'd where gloves, but it shouldnt hurt anything to move them to another area. Ive heard of guys digging up scrapes they find from one place and moving it to their grouonds to piss off the dominate buck before, i just havnt found any scrapes yet this year....ill probably do it once i find one. Call me a sucker for buying turds in a bag, but it sure did bring in the does to both of my mock setups over the last week and a half...:D
VERY nice pictures, I can't wait to try it out. When I eventually upload and post the footage of those 2 dumb fawns you'll see how they reacted to a mock scrape, very curious. One of them even took a dump next to it... They have since been named, tweedle-dee and tweedle-dumb... Looks like you have it down to a science, keep the pics coming!
