Naturally occurring scrapes seem to heat up right around October 15 - 31 where we hunt, but was wondering what everyone thought (or maybe experienced first hand) timing/activity on a mock scrape. I am thinking of trying early September this year...
From the reaserch I have done, deer use scrapes all year long, people just dont notice them as much because there not as tore up as they are in the fall before and during the rut. Also if you ever go on Youtube check out the bowhunting.com channel, they have a video on making a mock scrape and they were making that scrape in the middle of august.
I prep mine in May... each year, trail cam them through the summer and into the fall.. Whitetails hit licking branches year around...placed in the right locations, they can condition deer for months.. Good luck. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?22204-My-thoughts-and-experiences-with-Mock-Scrapes
Read the post by Shed, didn't get around to doing the mock scrapes until about three weeks ago, put out five and after two weeks of pictures with only one camera I have gotten pictures of 9 different bucks. Almost all the bucks during daylight, really looking forward to continueing to learn, this write up by shed is probably the best I've ever read on mock scrapes, definately worth the time to read.
I have so much Buck Fever Synthetics out right now its nuts..both in Idaho and E. Washington. 6 trail cams running over there and6 here in Idaho.. great activity this summer, almost all predominately daytime pics of mature bucks in Idaho... E. Washington cams have just been recently set.... gonna be a fun Hunting season..
I am using Buck Fever Synthetics as well for about two months. Deer are using the scrapes I made on a regular basis. Deer use scrapes all year long.
I got my buck fever synthetics out this past weekend and have a couple cameras over them. One is a new scrap and one is a old one I reconditioned. I also started two other new ones but don't have cameras for them. I'll let you know Neal how they turn out in a week or two. Everything I've read and heard tends me to believe I will be seeing some new bucks!
