I've never made a mock scrape and I'm wondering what is the best time or best way to make them. I have seen a lot of videos where people are making them in the early season and some even a month or 2 before season starts. I have spoke with my dad about them and he's only made them in the rut. What your all's opinion?

Use the search function. We have covered this in great detail here. You will find what you are looking for there.

Since I hunt public land I make them right at the start of season about 100 to 150 yards from parking area. Keeps a lot of "hunters " away from where I hunt. :-) Since most deer only visit scrapes at night and do not really make them till October why bother. Put a camera on a real scrape and see who comes calling and when.

Have have pictures of bucks right now working real scrapes and mock scrapes. They are mostly using them as scent markers right now keeping tabs on other bucks in the area. Like said above get yourself some smokies and make some mock scrapes now.
