Hey crew, Been bowhunting my acreage in mid-northern MN. Was able to harvest a deer mid-October. My first deer ever! I took this week off from bowhunting because rifle season is open. Rifle closes this Sunday (Nov 11th). What your advice on getting out bowhunting this next week? (Nov 12th - 16th). Do you recommend I wait another week and give the deer some time to let the pressure off? Or hunt them while the rut is still on? Any advice is appreciated. For those of you that are tempted to tell me hunt both... please help me choose one or the other. Thanks! Asher
Get out there ASAP. I've been hunting with my bow throughout the rifle season. Don't wait, just hunt Welcome to the site! Where in N MN are you?
HUNT THE RUT, AND BE THANKFULL WE CAN MINNESOTANS CAN!!!!! Wow was I just shouting??. Sorry. What I meant was, hunt the rut, you never know what is going to happen..... Most exiting time to be in the woods. IMHO
I've been hunting down near Shakopee since September 15th and haven't killed a deer yet. I bought a blaze orange vest and hat to go over my cammo clothes. I've continued to bow hunt during gun season and will be bow hunting until Dec 31st or until I shoot a deer. Doe or buck, I'm not picky, I'm not leaving the woods until I can fill this tag in my wallet.
NOW! Our rifle season opened today & I was bow hunting. The only thing I don't like is having to wear orange.
I was out this morning. It has been a long time since I hunted during slug season but the rut is on and my freezer is empty.... Man do I get nervous with everybody shooting all over the place. I thought I was in the middle of a fire fight this mrning.
You guys are awesome, thanks to everyone that replied and gave me great advice. My bags are packed and I'm leaving tonight. Preacher asked for the pic of my first deer ever. Here it is, but I'm a little embarrassed only because I thought it was a doe until I was carrying it out of the woods... Didn't intent to shoot a young buck. It was taken about 4pm on October 16th. I seen it walking towards me about 70 yards away. It stopped and circled a maple tree several times - taking it's time. Then it got all giddy and started jumping and then started galloping towards me. I grunted and it slowed down enough to nail it at 25 yards broadside. Thanks again for all you guys sharing your wisdom with use newbies. Four years, and and reading thousands of posts to get this one.
