Today walking to my stand I noticed blood near the road, and it ran past my stand. naturally I followed it up to a fawn laying down. It looked dead, but as I approached it looked up and rolled over once. My heart really felt for the poor thing. I immediately started calling DNR offices and COs. I wasn't able to get in touch with anyone. After two and a half hours one office finally called back and gave me the go ahead to put it down. Well I went back out with my .243 and put a quick and easy head shot oh it. Well now I'm still trying to get back in touch with them to see if I can gut butcher this deer. I don't want this deer to go to the coyotes. I just had to rant about the hardship of contacting the DNR in a time of need.
If they are anything like the game commission in PA, you have to understand that they are probably very understaffed and cover large area's.
Yes, but I still haven't even received a call back. The local Sheriff ended up giving me a tag. Shes all butchered and in my freezer. Good to see a deer not go to waste!
Many states DNR really down have the funding to run well when it comes down to it. I know in one of the counties I hunt there is only one DNR officer for the whole county. Only so much one person can do, crazy.
Did someone run over her head? You did the right thing. Personally, I never would have called. Instead, I would have done the deed and been on my merry way.
