at about 12:30AM this morning I was woken up by 2 gun shots fired maybe 50 yards from my front door. this is a little concerning so i get out of bed and see someone standing next to the evergreen across the street....they have a flashlight and arent running or fleeing the scene so I assume they aren't Joe-thug-life I open my window facing the street and shout out: "everything OK down there" the reply comes in: "Just putting down a deer that was hit by a car" satisfied that there's nothing bad going on, I close the window.....pause....then open the window again: "What are you going to do with it!?" "want it?" "I'll be right down!" I got a tag from the guy....who was a cop, as it turns out...cleaned it at night...and dropped it off at the butchers this morning. anyways...I'm pretty excited for the free meat....most of the force of the car went to the non-meaty part of the leg so the meat shouldn't be bruised much...mostly getting ground meat from it though. Yay for free venison I didn't have to sit in a tree in the cold for
Lol....well where I live is pretty rural....so its not THAT uncommon to hear gun shots....just usually not so close to the house....if the scene looked different I would have acted differently I always have something bed-side in case something bad were going on. Christine, he just gave me a piece of paper with his badge number, the department info, and time and location of the kill....nothing too fancy
I salvaged what I could from a roadkill BB hit in my neighbors front yard this fall. Small deer & a little banged up, didn't amount to much meat. But I got it out of sight in the front the yards & the yotes made SHORT work of what was left when I dumped it behind the house.
Awesome! I hit one on my motorcycle a few years back and ended up getting a tag from the state police for it. It was still good eating!
And what kind of shape was the motorcycle in after? Thats what I would worry about if I had a motorcycle around here, I watch deer cross the road every morning
