I'd like to hear your predictions. I'd also like to throw out the idea of Fedor dropping to 205, he could easily make that weight if he chose too. How dominate would he be at that weight?
I don't know who could beat him. I would love to see him fight Lesnar and see Brock get smoked. I wanted to see Randy fight him, just because Randy is so intelligent and wanted to fight him so bad that maybe he had a plan. Otherwise he may never lose. As far as moving to lightheavyweight, that would be great, especially if Anderson Silva moved up there to see those two fight. WOW
Next? Let's try first! :d Surely you know that one on his record wasn't really a loss is EXTREMELY suspect Here's some background on it for those who aren't familiar with The Last Emporer... Emelianenko's only loss in the sport is controversial, and came at the hands of Tsuyoshi Kohsaka at the King of Kings 2000 Block B event on December 22, 2000, via doctor stoppage due to a cut 17 seconds into the fight. Footage shows that the cut was caused by a missed looping punch where Kohsaka's elbow struck Emelianenko's head. Elbow strikes are illegal under Rings rules unless the striker is wearing elbow pads, which Kohsaka was not. Emelianenko says that this elbow reopened a cut sustained in his previous fight against Ricardo Arona. Since the fight was in a tournament format, a winner and loser was required as draws or no contests could not be awarded. Since Emelianenko could not advance due to his injury, Kohsaka moved on (the match would have been a no contest or disqualification victory for Emelianenko otherwise).
I think you guys underestimate Brock. I absolutely hate his personality and that ridiculous chest tatoo, but he in my opinion has the best chance right now against Fedor. Fedors strength is his hips and unorthodox Sambo takedowns, and what he is able to do once your down. Every time he has looked vulnerable is when he was on his back like in his fight with Mark Hunt. I don't see him putting Brock on his back, and if Fedor starts to get the better of him standing, Brock will take it down when he chooses and Brock will control him on the ground. Give Brock another year of training and I bet he takes Fedor out. It will be the most boring fight ever, but Brock will get the decision. I also wouldn't be surprised if Alistair Overeem took Fedor if he is smart enough to fight his fight, not Fedor's.
I agree with you Matt that when Brock gets another year or two of training under his belt, he's pretty much going to be unstoppable. Other than the always-present "puncher's chance" that's ubiquitous in the heavyweight division, as long as he spends 90% of his time working on BJJ techniques and submission defense, he's going to have a long career if he chooses to.
Yup Greg, I knew that and I almost added that into my post but I figured most hardcore MMA fans knew it as well. I didnt want to insult anyone.
Exactly what I was thinking in regards to Anderson. I would also like to see Randy get one shot at him.
Brock is undoubtably a THREAT to anyone just based on his pure size, athleticism and wrestling skill. I believe if he can stay healthy and train with the best; elevating his overall/well rounded game, he has the "potential" (dirty word in sports at times) to reach some amazing levels, maybe a level that we havent seen.. on the other hand Brock's chin has not been tested much, I want to see his chin tested, by a legit heavy hitter, maybe even a Shane Carwin type puncher.. ???? Shane took some hellashish shots from Gonzaga and weathered the storm, stood back up and KO'd him the "bleep" out.. impressive.
Cool, Troy. Figured you did, but it's amazing how some people are still just now hearing about Fedor...
Fedor versus Silva at 205..... dang I think I'd rather see that than Silva versus GSP at a catch weight.
I love the MMA talk as it is my next passion after bowhunting Whitetails of course. Heres the deal, Randy Corture has little chance to beat Fedor. Fedor just hits too hard and let's face it. Randy is no where near what he was years ago. Hes just a little slower and still in great shape but he went down from a Lesnar punch that was anything but square. Lesnar does have a chance especially because he has heavy hands, great ground control. Brocs greatest weakness was his ability to defend basic jiu-jitsu 101. He has gotten better everytime out. He should have beaten Mir in is debut fight. Massigatti cost him that fight by breaking it up and deducting that one point that he was never really warned about. That fight was over! I never saw anything like that. Shane Carwin no where near ready for contention. He hits hard but leaves himself open to be hit. Any striker will connect with him and make it a short night. Anderson vs. GSP would be the fight of the MMA world to date. No one is beating Fedor right now. Arlovski had a good shot but he got over aggressive. It cost him. Can't wait for UFC 100!!!
Yeah I wasnt implying that Carwin is ready for "title" contention right now, I'd just like to see how well Brock can take a punch from someone with power. Brocks fought the Crazy Horse, Mir and Randy.. Non of which have much power for heavyweights. I agree Randy doesnt stand much of a chance versus Fedor, but I never count that guy out, too many have and he proves them wrong. Randy vs Fedor would bring in some serious $ though! GSP and Silva would be interesting I just don't know if Georges has the chin for that fight. Fedor vs Silva, I'd like to see that.
Tribal, funny you mention Massigatti. I was reading some op-ed pieces about the state of reffing in MMA, and how a bunch of fighters REFUSE to let Steve referee their bouts. It's about the only check and balance they've got currently, and many are opting to utilize it when it comes to his reffing skills, it seems.
