Not sure how I really feel about us leaving the Big XII to head to the SEC but according to every news outlet around here the move is imminent. Missouri has been here from the beginning with over 100 years of tradition. It's sorta sad to think that my children will never understand the Missouri/KU rivalry. I think there are some positives for the move but for the state of Missouri and especially the Kansas City area it will be a big blow. We might takes some slight lumps in football but I think we should be just fine on the basketball front.

All reports I've read also have Mizzou being put in the East division. Apparently at least Bama and UT were willing to block the move if it messed with those 2 schools playing every year.

I don't understand the move either. The SEC obviously needs one more team to make things even out after accepting A&M. And it does add two huge cites of viewers to the market for SEC football.....but as for Mizzou, it has to be a move for the money. They will do just fine in basketball, but who on God's green earth would WANT to join the SEC West for football? That is essentially signing a death ticket. They will NEVER be dominant in football now, they will be a well paid punching bag for the west, similar to UKs role for the East, only the West is 10x harder.

I'd say it's good for the SEC, good for the state of Mizzou, and good for the pockets of the university....but I think their football program won't be near as impressive in the SEC as the Big 12. The top elite programs are awesome for both, but the underlings and middle of the pack are better for the SEC than the Big 12.

Whaa?! That makes no sense at all? lol

Auburn IS moving east if Mizzou joins. Question then is another west team sent East or a new comer who are technically the Western most schools sent East. This is exactly why Bama opposed the idea of adding Mizzou. It sends Auburn East, essentially cutting out their annual UT game since Auburn would assume that position.

Basketball won't matter as they did away with divisions starting this year.

Its all a money grab. Schools are making moves before they get left behind.

Everything I have read says Mizzou will be in the East. I agree it makes no sense, but I think it's the only way Slive can get enough votes for them. If Auburn moves East they will be Bama's cross division rival which takes away the annual UT/Bama game. So from what I've read Bama and UT would block the move unless its Mizzou to the East.

Man, that's stupid. They could end up with the worst record in the SEC every year. LOL It's going to be a tough haul in the SEC for them.

The worst record will go to Vandy, or KY and the West already have punching bags called the schools from MISS.

Um, no they won't be the worst in the SEC. They are consistently the 3rd or 4th best team in the Big XII every year. They might be a slight notch down in the SEC from this but it does open up avenues of recruiting outside of Texas that could very well help. Pinkel is a very good coach and recruiter. All indications point they will be in the East which should help slightly. This is all about money and getting out from underneath Texas, which put the Big XII in this position in the first place. I'm not necessarily happy leaving but I definitely wouldn't want to be left out in the cold either.

Thank goodness I thought I was the only one.

Mizzou will be another Miss St for the SEC. Decent in football, above average to "good" in basketball. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Agreed.

Though I think VT would provide the exact same thing. Thought thoroughly average at basketball at long as they have Greenberg.

Here in Kansas, some that the border rivalry will be gone... but at the same time, nobody really liked MU before all of this, and now everybody hates MU. MU's leadership is handling the whole conference affiliation "sucky" at best. Last year they were rejected from the Big 10, and now trying hard to get to their 2nd choice in the SEC. The rest of the Big 12 just wants it done and to get on with life. Whether MU leaves or stays isn't a big deal to the conference anymore. Not sure why MU insists in dragging it out so long. The Big 12 just needs to give them a deadline to sign that they'll be in the conference or they'll automatically be out. There are other teams waiting and wanting to take their place.

The biggest losers in all of this is KC and the MU Alumni in KC. They are going to be losing big. No more games at Arrowhead, no more Big 12 Tournament, etc. KU already said they won't play MU anymore if they leave, and i'm confident more Big12 teams will say the same.... just like Texas to T A&M.

I don't understand the jealous Ex mentality of "If you leave the conference we won't play with you anymore". Texas seems petty to end 100 year old rivalry over this, when truth be known their longhorn network is what caused the Big 12 shakeup.

The Baylor's Womens BB Coach said a classic quote regarding this.

"And my feeling is this: If a man wants to divorce me and says our relationship has no value to him, and then he asks if he can sleep with me, the answer is NO!"

    ------------------------------

But it's more than just playing the "Ex" mentallity. The way I see it, a game like MU/KU or TX/TAM benefits the leaving team more. When you're in a conference a long ways aways(SEC) you're not going to lose some publicity(and recruiting effort) locally, and in return gain publicity in the new conference(SEC). Instead, the team(KU) playing more local teams is. The less you continue to see MU in the KC area, the better it is for other local area teams like KU & KSU... especially for recruiting. There's a million reasons why it would be of great benefit for MU to keep a border rivalvry in KC. MU is getting all kind of heat right now, everywhere you look in KC. It's not the same for KU.

    Similar situation for Texas.

Yeah, I agree the LHN was the 1st big problem that caused all the shakeup we're seeing(and will see in the future), but it's definately not the only reason. TAM had a chance to be part of the LHN, but declined. TAM has always been ready to be out of the shadow of Texas...plain and simple. By leaving the conference, they're now the Texas Team of the SEC conference, almost like they still dominate the state. I'm confident that even if the LHN dissolved through negotiations, TAM still would have left. Same for Colorado, as they'd rather be in the PAC, as they're a much better fit there. Nebraska through I believe would have stayed, if Beebee could have done his job.
