I'm from Farmington, MO, but I go to college in saline county. Already got a doe and a 10 this year. Taking my girl tomorrow to see if she can fill a tag. This is her first year bowhunting so I hope I can get her started off right. My spot is pretty hot so we'll see. Ill update tomorrow night.
Jackson, Mo. Southeast along the Mississippi river. Shot one 8 pointer Nov 1st. still trying to get a doe and an illusive 12 pointer.
Bowling Green here. Hunting in Pike & Lincoln counties. Just got back in the area & gearing up for the second half of the season.
Shanks is a good spot. I try to get out there on occasion. Any luck there this year, I've seen some bruisers out that way in the past.
I shot a bruiser out there a few weeks back, but couldn't find him after a storm rolled threw. My friends were up there this past weekend and think they found him though, so I'll be hopefully heading up that way to put a tag on him soon. Waiting to hear from the conservation agent.
It can be hard to track in some areas back in there for sure, glad you got a good lead on him though. I'm thinking I'll be out that way in the next couple weeks or so & see if I can get anything in range.
Alright guys I will be making a trip after christmas. I am planing on hunting Dark Hallow NA and Union Ridge CA. I was wondering if any of you guys from Missouri have hunted these ares and what your thoughts where. Any help and information you guys have would be greatly appreciated. My buddy went down there for the rut but other then what he said I pretty much know nothing of the area.
I've never been to either of those, wish I had some info to help you. I would say if you have time to make a half day or full day scout of the land, you can get maps of both spots online: Conservation land: mdc.mo.gov/atlas Or for CA's: mdc.mo.gov/11017 Hope that helps, best of luck.
Yeah i have been doing the best I can from maps. At least I will have a general idea on where to look when I get there. Buddy has a few ideas to from when he was down there during the rut.
Used to make the drive up there with a buddy of mine before I got private ground. It has primitive camping also we used to use a pop up camper there.
Hey guys I have a question for you Missouri hunters, I am planning on going back to MO this weekend to hunt on some public ground and I was going to have my nephew film me. Does he need to have a permit to do so? I know the regulations say that they are not allowed to assist by calling or rattling and he won't be doing any of that so does he need one? He is 18 if that matters. Thanks guys.
Here's what I found. I think a cameraman is a grey area when it comes to "assisting" the hunter, but probably best to be on the safe side. Taken from here: 2013 General Deer Regulations | Missouri Department of Conservation "Assisting other deer hunters A person must have a filled or unfilled deer hunting permit to assist others in pursuing or taking deer, which includes participating in deer drives or enticing deer with calls or rattling antlers. It is illegal to shoot or take a deer for another hunter. Note: Party hunting where hunters pool their tags is prohibited."
