Very cool (and cold) hunt this morning. I don't know what drew me to my food plot stand other than the obvious funnel that it is. Had I been in that stand opening morning of our rifle season, I would have had a shot on a big (according to my landowner) buck that my landowner missed. The buck came out under my stand, walked across the field and he missed it twice with his 6mm. I saw a small buck that morning as well as doe as I was in a stand inside a bedding area.

Anyway, fast forward to this morning. Although I didn't see anything from the stand, it became very cool, very quick once I got down.

I walked out to the cornfield you see in the background to watch for tracks. There were a couple that cross the plot as well as walked along the corn field. There was a ton of tracks in the corn, of course. :p As I walked along the corn field on my way out, I heard all kind of ruckus in the hedge row. I thought hmmmm, it really didn't sound like a deer. But I listened. I decided to walk closer and got behind one of the bushes (term used loosely) to break up my outline. Suddenly I saw a coyote! Cool, so I got semi ready and started sucking on my lips in a squeal like sound and the SOB ran right at me. He stopped abruptly staring at me and started moving to my right (downwind). I had to reposition myself in the crunchy snow but got away with it as I made squealing like sounds. I drew, estimated a little over 30 and loosed an arrow. I barely went over his back. @*$% but it was cool. He didn't bolt, he looked behind him where the arrow hit grass and I knocked another arrow but didn't get drawn. He moved down wind and then bolted back to where he came from.

I was smiling ear to ear while I looked for my still lost arrow. I walked toward the ruckus and that's when I found the Rob buck.

Wasn't sure what happened to him. He's been laying there for quite a while and I hunted close to him on several occasions without any indication that he was there. I text my cousin who hit a buck earlier in archery and never found him. He thinks this is the buck although he thought it was an 8 point. It's a 4 x 1, a true representative of a Rob buck.

Too bad for the RB. Another year and he'd have been ripe for the picking.

Cool experience with the coyote. Too bad about that buck, though. Hear many shots this morning?

At least something got the buck. I can't stand to see them on the side of the road.

That yote is one lucky SOB! Sounds like an awesome hunt Rob. It's too bad that buck didn't live another year, he would have been a dandy rob buck next year.

I'd still be afraid to drink the water there. :D

If I ever come for a visit, I'm brining my own drinks.

    LOL

Too bad about the yote. It is harder estimating yardage when everything is happening fast. Been there... done that !!! I tend to underestimate... 30 yards is really 35 yards and such.

Too bad about the Rob buck. Just think what he would have been in a couple years... a bigger Rob buck !! LOL You seriously have some messed up bucks !! Good luck hunting !!

With you're speed demon you shot over him???? I think your follow through lacked because you were surprised by the whole encounter...... Just a hunch, I can see you missing that shot on a 3D range, that's for sure!!! Sorry on both accounts that a buck ESPECIALLY for you is dead and not by you're efforts, and that you missed the Songdog. It looks COLD there!!! BRRRRRR!!

I think Rob has antler traps up when the bucks are in velvet to make them grow goofy.;)

Nice John. I would have likely put an arrow through him during this rifle season but during our archery, I'm thinking he would have gotten a pass. I'm thinking it but I can say that now. :p

    Ya.

I heard a couple shots very far off. There are lead slingers still out there trying just like I am. ;)

I have a stand about 40 yards from this downed buck. Maybe another coyote will show himself.

LOL, I said to my wife, it's better off I missed him, $450 for a mount, $100 for a pelt...... :D

    Ya might want too. :p

I hear that Tim. It happened fast, I was "pumped" and did I mention it happened fast!

Semi cold. I was carrying my Air Raid, although still flinging over 300fps, I think you are right about the shot execution. Ben knows my coyote target is one of my favorites and I light it up! Real world experiences are much, much different. :D Don't let that give you too much confidence at the next gtg. :p I'll likely be burning targets with a Destroyer.

Sure was, especially from the ground, one on one and face to face.

    Was my 4th attempt, 2nd with a bow. I'm now 3-4 on yotes. :( :)

:D Germ, is that Germinise for genetics? And I'm trying like hell, if it's my cousins deer, now I have the family involved.

LOL Brian. Ya figured me out. ;)
