It wasn't a bad day in the tree. Morning started off with no rain, but it quickly found me around 7:30am. It was in the high 30's, pretty cold for this time of year here. Rained pretty hard throughout the morning, but the deer didn't seem to mind too much. Saw 12 deer by 9:30, including a small fork horn. I stuck it out until around 10:00am and had to get out of the stand because of the pouring rain. I took the opportunity to check a trail cam and was pleasantly surprised to find 108 pics on it. Got a pretty decent 8 and a big black bear on cam. I only got the morning hunt in and spent the rest of the day with the kiddos. Can't complain too much, it was a pretty active first day here in PA.
Nice! glad you got out. It was an absolutely gorgeous morning here until around 9 am when the rains hit. I actually didn't hunt the opener, but took 2 deer out of the woods. I had shot a doe friday night in the special regs doe season, had to let her go & find her in the morning. Turned out she didn't go 80 yds with a really good shot. As I was doing that I got a call my dad put a buck down & needed help getting it out. So all in all a weird, but good opening morning.
Very slow opening morning for me (nice weather until 9 or so). No sightings. Didn't hunt the afternoon, but I was one of the few people who didn't see anything opening morning, so they must have been moving. Back at it this afternoon.
Even though you didn't get a chance to connect, sounds like a decent day. Though, you're a better man than I, as I can only hunt in warm rains....
Oh it was definitely chilly! Hence the reason I bailed out of the stand around 10am looking like a drowned rat.
