That may be true but by in large, there was a lot more fun rap than gangster.

Is there anything but gangster rap today?

Just don't allow your kids to listen to it. Eminem is likely the best lyrical rapper of all time and the stuff he has rapped about makes parents want to cut their kids ears off. I was forbidden to listen to that stuff until I was old enough to just do it anyway without them knowing. You can only control so much, and I stand for their right to make themselves sound like ignorant junkies on the way to making millions more than the right for parents to not have to shelter their kids from this stuff.

I guess what I am getting at is it's entertaining to listen to for people who aren't influenced by it in their personal thought processes. It's up to parents to make sure it doesn't reach their kids ears, not up to the artists to not produce it.

Plenty of heavy metal & country music garbage too, that I would not wanting my kids listening to. NWA didn't ruin us, I don't think these guys will either.

And it also my right not to support dirtbags by buying their music or to act like it is "just music" when in fact is is crap. I am not saying I never listen to rap music, I am just getting a lot more sensitive to the bs act those guys put out there and the young, impressionable kids that eat it up. Those guys should be ashamed of themselves and the ones that wear crosses on their necks all the while talking about the worst things on earth make me sick.

So your logic to me sounds as if we let our children listen to country music they will get the idea that they will lose everything they ever worked for?

Most country songs revolve around losing your wife, divorce, your dog is your only friend, etc.

    — What do you get when you play a country song backwards?
    — You get your house back, your wife back, your dog back, your truck back...

I'll preface this with the fact that I have grown to hate rap. When I was in my teens in the mid 90's, I listened to rap. Lyrically, most songs were not that crude, but I guess the rappers of today feel the only way they can carry cred' is to be bigger, badder, meaner, angrier and higher than all their competition. Personally, I wish the entire genre would just go away. It's turned into nothing but thug rap.

I'm not seeing where I said that it's musics fault that people are acting like gangsters. I'm speaking about how today's rappers continue to promote a lifestyle that is completely despicable. Degrading women, dealing drugs, and shooting people are glamorized in this sort of bs.

The reason I mentioned the town near me is because I hate to hear about this sort of gang/crime related crap, because that sort of thing ruined a once beautiful and properous town. Now because of the crime and trash in town, multiple business ventures have left or been scared away from ever bringing business to the town. Others may enjoy living that lifestyle, and that's their choice, but I don't enjoy it and think that the music that glamorizes it is a bunch of crap.

The first thing most rappers could do to give back to their communities would be to stop glorifying evil. But they never will because of money.

The mindset they rap about is the mindset of their entire communities. They were just witty enough with words to make it big rapping about it. I agree with what you said, I just don't even know if that would fix it at this point.

Lets just say, rappers constantly harping on "f the police", drugs and cocaine, fighting, treating women like B****es, and guns, is just getting old to me. And we dummy Americans keep giving these idiots our money to promote their horrible lifestyles, thereby negatively influencing generations of kids. It is starting to sicken me.

There is more to rap than just "gangsta" rap or even the pop rap you hear on the radio.

There are some amazing rappers out there. I don't have time to provide links at the moment, but I'll try later.

I understand that Hooker. I am talking about the mainstream crap, the stuff that everyone sees and on which money is spent. Every single basketball game I go to I hear the filth playing as well, except they have to sensor the words. I guess no spectator or fans at basketball games wants to listen to anything else besides rap. Then the bad behavior ensues in the stands when people get hyped up like they are outside in the hood fighting. Stupid.

If I did a shot for every time Brett said crap in this thread I would die of alcohol poisoning.

I agree though, a lot of rap is crap. But so is a lot of country, pop, metal, etc.

Believe me Dan I want to say more than crap. :) But the crappy country, pop, and metal songs do not come close to anything the rap songs come up with....not even close to the terrible behavior that is talked about during the songs.
