Here's a public land spot just north of downtown Shakopee called Raguet WMA. I've a newer bowhunter (3rd year) and this is where I learned to scout deer, read maps and terrain, wind and weather. It's cool because it's close to the metro, and has all the water, food source and woods a deer could want. I shot my fist deer here, see maps, and there's always plenty of sign here year round. I have a private land owner up north now so I'm passing on this spot to anyone who could use the tip......enjoy.
Message me if you have any questions about it, I literally have hundreds of hours in boot time all over that place :)

That's great thanks. Currently i'm not looking for more ground but someday I may give it a shot. Thanks for not being selfish and informing us of this spot. Did you run into a lot of bowhunters when you hunted it? Good luck up north!

During the weekdays maybe, maybe you'd run into one hunter......weekends your guaranteed to be in there with two or three, mostly during that fall peak time. Early season and late are best for hitting the land by yourself.

I just think it's a really great spot, ecsecially for a beginner living in the area, to get some field experience, it worked wonders for me. It used to take me forever to walk in with my gear, set up sticks and stand and pack out again, now I have a well practiced system, in and up top in no time. Probably a great spot for a parent child teaching ground as well.
