Last time I was out was Nov 6th, I'm going out again Sunday, what part of the rut is happening here locally ? Those who have been out, have deer been up and moving since the snow fell ?????
I hunted SE Minnesota tonight I had 4 does and a small buck all with 30 yards or less ... The buck was following the does and was about 3 minutes behind them ... Started moving early they came through at about 330
Awesome, I'm heading out before dawn tomorrow with my recurve and see what happens. I'll be down in the river valley near Shakopee
I was out with my smoke pole again this afternoon, in the snow! Just South of Austin, didn't see a dang thing, not even a track! Its getting really old...
I was out this morning. "Tagged out," by 7:10 am. Heh, heh, heh, because we only get one tag see. Anywhoo, I had a nice mature doe come by at 10 yards and drew back and let her fly and... MISSED...lol. She ran, stopped at 30 and this time I connected. Been seeing lots of does and a few bucks, the latter of which have been slowly trailing any resident does.
I was able to fill my first tag a week ago up near Mora on a private farm but tomorrow I'll be down on a piece of public land. It's been tough there since there's hunters there a lot. I keep at it though because to me, shooting a high pressure public land deer has a certain satisfaction over a low pressure hunt situation. Also working this public spot has forced me to read terrain, weather and wind way better than I could last season
