Aside from being a whitetail addict, I am also a trapping addict... I just don't film my line as often as I should. I am however starting to film everything on my trapline starting this season. Here's a quick video we did on a very simple set for trapping mink.
The little ones always are! My daughters minpin/pub is a wild one, while my Shepherd and my lab are both pretty mellow dogs lol
She has to go for a walk in the pasture before dark every night before dark, does not matter how cold it is or how deep the snow is, she prefers hunting squirrels, but she has no limits she can tree anything.
I wanted a trapper to come in and thin the raccoons and coyotes tried to talk to the neighbors about it, they freaked out so no trapping.
I've learned that the majority of the no's stem from them being uneducated about trapping in general. I've asked several farms for access over the years in one of the areas I've been interested in for many years with ONE saying yes and all of the other neighbors saying no. With them being a little mad that I was trapping their neighbors property they paid very close attention to where I was and what I was doing. Then came a few questions mixed in with a little sarcasm... lol. Eventually I won them over and now I've gained access to a lot of places because of the people that originally said no and actually recommended me to other people in the area.
Has anyone tried calling coons like out of a den tree? Saw some videos on YouTube it looks intense. Similar to a coyote approach with e caller and decoy and all Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I've called in a few, but not often. I find that it's easier to call them out of old barns and other very old and no longer used farm buildings than in the woods. Obviously those buildings need to have easy access for raccoon and other critters, but don't overlook those spots. One of my favorite places to trap raccoon during the winter also happens to be those same buildings. I'd get out there and get some video of how I do it, but I'm stuck in coyote mode right now trying to trap as many as possible.
If I get some free time this winter I'll see what I can do. I normally hunt predators a lot, but don't have time with my heavy trapping schedule this year. I'd like to get out there chasing yotes and other predators with the ol' 22-250 one of these days!
I got one of those too. Savage model 116. Sweet gun. Although i Hunt more timber so I’ve found that my 12 ga with waterfowl 3.5” BBB work very well with my pattern master for yotes Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well... It's almost like the video is meant to be... I just got home from checking out a new farm I just gained access too for trapping pretty much whatever I want, and as luck would have it, there is an old farm house (basement plus 2 other floors), and several old buildings all abandoned on the property with opened up doors and broken windows. I guess I'll be doing a little bit of calling for some raccoon sooner than I had planned!
Talking to my uncle a little while ago and he said there was a guy trapping coyotes near him along the MN river. They've trapped 65 already this year in only an 8 mile stretch. Originally text me about his neighbor finding cougar tracks in an abandoned grove near his place.
