I have been bowhunting 30 + years and have lots of experience though I am certainly not the authority on much. I shoot 5 inch vanes through a Whisker B and was wondering about using the new Mini Vanes with fixed broadheads. The only reason I would consider them is for the ease of installing them. I have target shot with them and get good results but how well do they stabilize fixed heads?

    Any words of wisdom?

I have been shooting 2" blazer vanes with Muzzy Fixed 3 Blades. They shoot dead on target, IMO I believe they stabilize in the air faster than traditional vanes. Good luck and Happy Shooting! :)

I do not think they will be as forgiving as the vanes you use now or larger vanes/feathers in general. You may not need much forgiveness on the shot when target shooting but, IMO, when hunting you need much more forgiveness out of your setup.

I have done extensive testing shooting different arrows/vanes through my bow and have tried any and all vanes I could get my hands on and I ALWAYS come back to using 4 inch vanes. They always group better for me. I really want to like the blazers or fusion vanes if for nothing else they look cooler and add a little speed, as much as 10fps in one test by the way, and yet when I hit the woods the 4inch vanes are on my arrows. I have a bunch of Fusion vanes in 3 inch and 2 inch i'll send some to you if you want to do some testing of your own.

I believe a smaller vane would be better for you being your using a WB.

I've been having great results with the 2" Blazer vane but my rigs are what most people refer to as "super tuned". They'll throw a bare shaft square on target at 40 yards so they don't need much stabilization other than to correct for the broadhead. A full helical 2" Blazer provides that for me with the G5 Stryker and/or Montec 125 grain head.

Not sure... I haven't measured them. They are the NAP heat shrink kind you can buy at Academy or Bass Pro. I got them to reconstitute some old arrows for practice and they seem to fly great with field tips but I do notice a difference with Broadheads as several have said.

I guess I should have provided more setup info.

    Hoyt Protech 3000
30 Inch draw maxes out at around 68 lb though it is supposed to be 70.
Old style Wb with a Drop tine
    Beman MFX 340 Arrows
Griz Tricks (Just switched over and love em)
Dead on w/field tips or BHs at 40 (using the larger vanes)
I don't have a chrono but I am estimating 260-270 fps probably a little off but close.
