I put out minerals in spring and summer. Is it worth it to put out trophy rocks this time of year? There on sale at ****s for $10. Think a big buck would hit one?
Deer would hit minerals any time of the year here if it were legal, but I can't have minerals out this time of year. Too close to opening day.
Typically I would say no, but they have been hammering my mineral site over the last couple weeks. It isn't going to hurt anything to have it out there. Or, Trophy Rock isn't going to go bad, stock up for next year.
They are normally $14 here so that's a good savings. We go through about 100 each year but we're going to stop doing mineral stations due to CWD scare. DNR here will stop it before long anyway, may as well get used to it. Feeders are also getting phased out. I'm going to start adding in a lot of micro-nutrients into the fertilizer for the crops and food plots here and add a lot of lime to the plots. They'll have to get salt from the livestock blocks I guess, lol. I have to laugh if the DNR thinks they'll cut off deer eating salt/mineral, every cattleman around uses salt blocks for their cattle and deer use those anyway.
They've gone through a whole trophy rock in the last month on me. Putting another one out this week. Sent from my VS985 4G using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
They don't hit minerals as much in the cooler temps. I would stock up for next spring. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
They slowed down hitting mine the last week or so. Antlers hardening up and other food sources are dropping.
I have a trophy rock out on the old mineral stump have had to pick it off the ground the last two days, the deer always love salt and minerals.
They should hit minerals year round if available but the biggest benefit, if any, will come in the spring and summer when they are taking in the most nutrition. I use minerals year round because of the aroma, I just use less in colder months.
typically once the antlers harden they don't need as much of the minerals. I would save them for NEXT Year. good deal $10.00
I put out two bags around this time last year, they didn't touch it until this spring, not one lick. Other than that I have no input, but it wouldn't hurt, worst case is you have it already out for next year.
