I just went out and checked my cameras and my main mineral site smelled horrible. Anyone else had this happen before. Had a lot of rain and it broke my mineral blocks up but i didn't think that them being mixed in with the dirt would make them smell like that. My pictures on that site have been considerably low also. Not sure about what to do.....any help on the situation would be great.

Did you look around to see if something was dead?

My bet is there is something dead nearby.
What kind of minerals do you have out? Never experienced anything like that.

Can mold grow on the mineral? Still though that would be some strong smelling mold.

Never had that problem. I use MonsterRaxx and it doesn't last long. If needed, dig it up and move it out of there.

Excessive phosphorous in the mineral? Not sure unless it is like others have said here that there is something dead in the area!

Are you sure someone didn't tamper with your site? My family owns a hay farm and the state gave us deer repellant that smelled absolutely awful like something died!

Repellants generally have egg solids and blood in them...that's an option I had not considered...oh that would really piss me off to find that to be the case. (if it were mine)

Some blocks they sell at feed & seed places look like mineral blocks but are actually a combination of minerals, feed, corn, etc. they mix it all up with something that helps it adhere and then press it into a block. These type blocks can mold and ferment especially as it breaks down and gets exposed to moisture. It as an absolutely horrible smell.

Every once in awhile the water gets pretty swampy smelling and algae filled in mine, and stinks pretty bad, but it doesn't bother the deer any.

I got the minerals blocks from Gander Mountain because they were on sale. 5 bucks for a 25lb mineral block or so it was advertised. The blocks i bought are just as you described. I had no idea that they would break down like that guess ill be buying some MonsterRaxx, seems to be pretty popular on this site.

....and yes i checked for something dead in the area everyone haha....Thanks for all the help!
