Yea, same reason parents of unhealthy kids claim their plan of letting kids drink pop/kool aid to take a multi-vitamin
I am a HUGE proponent of Monsterraxx, not gonna act like I am not. However, I will say no attractant/mineral/plot/bait will keep deer around like habitat work. Habitat work takes time and energy but in the end that is the only sure fire way to keep deer around the most. Monsterraxx to me is the way I help keep the deer's health maximized, and if it helps produce larger antlers (which I believe it does by default of making them healthier) so be it.
Mineral sites area lot of fun for trailcam inventory as summer comes around. Some of my sites thrive while others are ignored no mater what I put down and I have tried them all. You could try putting a corn topper for a while to get the deer used to the site and having water close also helps. Even a small kiddi pool from walle works well
My food plot venture failed last year year as well (I suck). I'll have more effort into it this year. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I wasn't arguing with you, I was just stating my stance in regard to the replys in this thread. The mix is pricey as Dical is hard to come by up here and is around or over $30 a bag. I am just not one of those dudes who is trying to grow bigger deer by supplements or food plots and the such. I am content with hunting what is already there. Nothing wrong with people doing it, just not something I am interested in. I'd rather try to find them (search different properties or areas of public) then hunt them rather than "grow" them then hunt them. I am not saying there is anything wrong with that, nor am I saying I wouldn't hunt those deer on a friends land or a shared property... Just that trying to grow bigger deer doesn't interest me.
Here is a MR site I started last spring. The location is a creek bottom with the creek behind the camera at around 10-20 yds. Heavy bedding to the right and left with a large funnel to the right of the camera. I think location is an important key in starting any mineral site. You just have to put it where the deer are and where they will feel safe. Here is dad replenishing it for me a couple weeks ago. Didn't take long for the deer to crowd around lapping it all up
It's not unheard of to have some time to establish these sites. While I didn't experience the prolonged lack of activity like Caleb has, my first year using Monster Raxx took a lot longer to establish, and that was using two sites on the property that had active mineral sites years prior to that. Another member on here who has used the product that lives 20 minutes from me also has similar experiences. Not to say it doesn't work, because is does (I have more out this year), but it's not a magic powder. Perhaps there are other factors at play beyond location that have different rates of success.
All 3 licks are in. Now we wait to see if the deer cooperate. I won't have cameras on them all full time until after turkey season, gives them a little time to get established. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
First week results: Im satisfied at this point. Looks like it will turn into a great place to inventory bucks!
I didn't didn't use MR. I used a 66lb mixture of trace mineral/salt/dicalcium phosphate in each lick.
