Be careful using it in IL! A friend of mine hunting in Jo Daviess county got busted for using the Rock plus baiting with corn and pumpkins. I assummed the Trophy Rock was safe to use 'cause it was "natural", but that was not the case with him. I believe his biggest issue was the 100# of corn he had out a few days prior to the gun season :busted:

Don't plan on shooting a big buck over bait--be it mineral, corn, or the the rock mineral..

They all have their place during the right time of the year for taking inventory of your herd, but shortcuts are not what you should be looking for.

You need to put the foot time in on your property to find a pinch point where bucks will travel through looking for does, and then hunt it when its right...

All the deer attractants on the market will not put a trophy on your wall.. Only seat time in the stand and hunting smart will...

The best (and cheapest) is a 50/50 mix of calcium phosphate from your local feed store (goat mineral is about the same with low or no copper) and stock or ice cream salt.

This is simply not true many bucks over 150 were shot here in Kentucky this weekend over corn piles. If you can hunt them early you can kill them off a corn pile. Late season up north can be good also. :deer:

As far as minerals the only true mineral that has been mention so far is Monster Raxx the rest are over 90% salt

In Indiana hunting over corn or bait of any kind is illegal..

In my case I have never experienced a chance to legally hunt over bait. It may work where its legal, but not knowing where jcole was from I thought it best not to lead him down a path that could get him in trouble.

I have always felt that hunting over bait is a shortcut. Maybe I'm wrong thats just my opinion.

Somehow I equate it to hunting in the barn lot after the farmer has fed...

And as much as I would like to agree, watch Bone Collector or Uncle Ted... Almost every hunting show I watch, the monster buck walks in and sticks his head in a pile of pink, green, white, or yellow SOMETHING right before he gets shot.. I always wondered how they always shot deer that just happened to walk in, stop, and stick their head right behind a log or a pile of weeds.. Watch after the shot whan they walk by to retrieve the deer.. You will see that there was feed/supplement or something right there where they were standing.. Took me a few times to see it.. But what would make a big buck walk out into the wide open and stop in the perfect opening or run around several times just to return and stick thier head behind something and eat.. First I thought the hunters had ESP and knew where the big bick would feed that morning EXACTLY... But then saw the bait..

Dont get me wrong, I use mineral sights and corn feeders as well... But have Mnay Many daytime photos of awsome bucks feeding at 9am..

We have used C'Mere deer and Deer Cane.. We dig a hole about 8 inches deep, pour in corn and cover it with Deer Cane or C'Mere Deer.. Cover it back up with dirt.. When it rains, the water dilutes the powder and it soaks into the dirt.. We see deer returning to the same hole year after year when you put one in.. Have also seen that the square blocks will get pounded by raccoons, squirrels, birds, ect.. Because of the seed and stuff in it.. We use the "Trophy Rock" mineras rock.. These get licked for 10 - 15 minutes solid when a deer comes in.. Just our observations on my lease.. Some might get other results.. Just trying to give some experiences..

    NOTE: Legal where we hunt

TV is all about making money by creating a show that everyone will watch, and that won't happen without them shooting a big buck on film.

Uncle Ted is still probably fighting his case or paying for it from a hunt out west over a pile of bait.

Baiting is the shortcut that a lot of hunting shows decide to do to get that footage.

I got to agree if it was legal where I hunt then maybe I'd warm up to it...

Last time I checked though there is maybe 5 or 6 states out of 50 that allow it during the hunting season, and then it is regulated to private grounds mostly. I'm just saying for the 40 or so states where it not legal in the US to hunt over bait that there are still ways to get a 150 inch buck in front of you without the bait.

I know some are going to say how is hunting over mineral/salt, corn or whatever any different from hunting a food plot or a corn field.

The difference is opportunities to feed for deer are not limited to one attractant spot, but covers large areas; many times several acres or more.

So to where it legal hunt’um up….

If you have a problem with something just say it but if you are going to throw out statements like this and say the last time I checked you should spend more than a couple minutes on it. Because making statements like maybe 5 or 6 states out of 50 allow it make you look biased.

Here are a list of states where it is legal to hunt deer over bai:
    Michigan
    Texas
    Connecticut
    Maryland
    Kentucky
    West Virginia
    Kansas
    Ohio
    Wisconsin
    North Dakota
    New Jersey
    New Hampshire
    Arizona
    Akansas
    Washington
    South Carolina
    Georgia
    Florida
    Oklahoma
    Delaware
    Utah

Some of the states you can only bait certain parts and some are just private land. There are other states you can bait in front of a camera just not hunt near it.
