Jeff, correct me if I'm wrong... but it is as follows; 1 part Rock Salt 1 part Di-Calcium Phosphate 2 part Trace Minerals What I did to get an even mixture... I took a coffee can and a five gallon bucket, dipped out one can full of rock salt, one can of phospate, and 2 cans of trace minerals at a time and poured them into the bucket, and mixed accordingly. p.s. it ran me $40.00 per 200lbs. last year. EDIT: Kyle- we just can't hang....
I would always use half a bag of salt and mix it with half a bag of mineral salt. You can get it at most any rural king or tractor supply or such.I would pour it out on the ground at trail crossings and they would always tear it up,but even though hunting over it is leagl in Ky,I would rarely hunt over it and even when I did, deer sightings on it was rare. They would mostly hit it at night. This seems to work much better in my area than a block.
When I was young I would watch the deer eat the "dirt" on an area of the gas-line. It was not until later that I learned of them eating the dirt to get the minerals. I must have sounded crazy to my buddies at 12 or 13 telling tham our herd was eating dirt. We have not been able to mess with salt licks the last couple eyars...we hunt an urban area and fools find the licks and the cameras...and the rest is history. Less pictures now but the price of cameras keeps us back of the main trail.
