Gotta love October 1st!!! Opening day here in Michigan and man was it a good one...The temp was awesome, stayed around 40 degrees. At daylight I caught some movement off to my right. Watched two nice 1.5's spar for about 10 minutes. They then walked about ten yards out and I was so tempted to shoot one but last year I told myself I wouldn't shoot anything under 2.5. It paid off last year for me so I'm sticking to it. This guy looked right at me and just slowly turned around and walked the way he came in. He left his buddy hanging haha. About a half hour later I catch movement behind me. The nannys are rolling through! I set up perfect on the lead doe but shes moving along well and I need to stop her before she exits my lane, I give her a mouth bleat and let it fly. Hit her a little further back then I wanted too but the 350grain Maxima hunter sporting a 100gr Thunderhead flew through her like butter. The arrow has blood all the way down and there is decen't blood not far from impact. Its been about 2 hours now and I'm going to go back and start tracking. Wish me luck!!! -SH
Not looking good.... I knew I hit her a little back but I still thought I had to catch liver or maybe some lung. I have tracked about 150 yards. The arrow had a slight gut smell to it but the blood I have been finding is thick. I was on my hands and knees going through lots of small trees and briars. She came to a tall grassy field and I just couldn't find any more blood. Had to grab a quick bite to eat and going back to look some more....... never hit one and not been able to recover..... I'm bummed.
