I was at an archery range the other day with my friend and we like this perticular place because its kinda like a golf course (where you shoot the first target, then move on to the second, etc.... and it goes through out this old timers piece of woods) its a really cool place. My question.... (My pins are set for 20, 30, and 40) When i was shooting this fox target at 20 yards my grouping was perfect and the arrows were flying where i was aiming... i stepped back so i was around 25 yards. My arrows were all over the place. I used my 20 yard pin and over compensated a little for the fact that i was further away but i guess i couldnt find a steady point to aim for. (Its also not the distance because my 30 yard pin was about a 3-4 inch grouping on the bullseye).. Any suggestions?
You're probably right with your assumption. You are probably not comfortable "gapping" your pins. Practice, practice, and more practice! Many people one practice at the even yardages (20,30,40,50..etc). It's good practice to practice at all yardages.
try installing another pin in between your 20 and 30. it might be crowded but once you get it figured out you can remove it again. :-/ It worked for me!
One 25 yard shots... I still use my 20 yard pin and aim at a precise spot..... above the intended impact point. You'll need to practice to see how many inches high you need to aim. If I just use the empty space (gap) between the 20 and 30, I don't get good groups.
To avoid having to do this, even though I was fine doing it, I changed my pin set up from 20, 30, 40, 50 to 20, 25, 30, 35. I figured the less "estimation" I have to put into my shots, the more accurate I'll be, especially when it comes to hunting.
