How late in the season do you use calls? I'm always scared that its too late and I will scare the deer. Opinions please!!!

Once the gun hunters come out, I put the calls away.

The only time I use them after is to call a deer that I can see, and isn't headed my direction.

ok so rattling would be a good possibility? i have a small chunk of woods that used to be on a college campus where my parents worked. now my boss owns it all and they r making me share the 400 acres of deer heaven. well they let me hunt in an ok spot but this huge buck ive been chasing always stays on the wrong side of the field. could rattling work? i know hes the head honcho around there.

I will use the CAN call and grunt tube... but only if I see a buck heading the wrong way.

Never had much luck rattling any time of the year here.

Grunt and rattle. But dont get aggresive with the horns tickle the tines together so that he thinks they are young bucks testing the area. He will just come by to check it out. I never use the can because everyone had them and the only time i used it i was like an alarm and they all took off. But code blue estrus gel works greay for me.

The can isn't used too much in my area and I use it sparingly. It really depends on the area though, pressure and something to keep in mind. Good post !!

The can is a great tool if it has not been used by alot of people in your area. But the problem i have with it is go to the store and pick a few cans of the same size and they all sound the same. Think about it like this if you go to a bar to pick up a chick. Do you always look for the same exact one. Use a call that you can adjust the tones and length of the call and throw the sound in different directions.

Rattling and grunting only brings in the young deer in my woods ... now that it's getting late even they aren't coming anymore. Every mature buck I have called to lately will stop and look for awhile but if see's no deer, hears no leaves rustling or smells no deer he will ignore the calls and continue on his way. I have had three stand there for several minutes and observe but they are to smart to come in close. Right now I'am staying silent (unless I can see him and know there is no chance he will come my way ... I might try to turn him with calls and a decoy).
