For midsize, it's not even a question (until the Diesel Colorado comes out). Tacoma. Bought a 96 in high school with 105k, lifted, and wheeled it hard. Sold it with almost 200k on it 5 years layer for $400 less than I paid. Never saw a shop. My current 2005 Tacoma I bought in 2007 with 54k miles for $17,800. Put 100k on it since the (a lot of hard miles). It's never seen a shop aside from body work from when I had an accident. Dealers are lining up to give me $11k for my trade.
I am pretty sure they did in the earlier ages of the Canyon/Colorado just like how they did a short run of the ones with the 5.3 motor. If u can get one with the 5.3 I highly recommend it but I know there valued a good amount more then the 5 cylinder. I'm working on it....... Don't know how long I can deal with this sling though
A good deal on a Tacoma will overrule my liking of a Canyon/Colorado. I think I'll just keep nickle and dime saving more for a down payment, and not be in a rush but constantly looking for a deal next spring and summer when 4x4 prices usually tuck a touch here. Then once price is negotiated ask what they'll give in trade also for my current F150 which all but when I've owned it was a Florida truck saw no salt till coming north.
I bought a 14 tacoma a few weeks ago. So far I love it. The only downside to me is it gets about the same fuel mileage as my sierra did, but I knew that going in. Awesome little trucks.
I'd buy another Chevy 1500 for a mid-sized truck. If I were getting a puny truck, I'd look real hard at a Tacoma.
As mentioned alot, tacos hold their value like no other vehicle I've came across. I buy cars and sell them on the side and you can't afford to buy a taco at the sale they just bring entirely too much. What I can't understand is why you would buy a mid-size when you can get a full size for nearly same price, speaking used of course? Same gas mileage, more towing, more power, more room, within $2000 difference of its mid-size equal. Find somebody on craigslist getting ready to let a vehicle go back and work with their bank. I bought my 08 tundra crewmax with 42k miles for $24k in 2010 doing that very thing. Cash is king, but deals can be had.
I honestly don't understand the Tacoma popularity... But that's just me. I'm a ford guy and I doubt id ever buy a truck that isn't Ford or GM Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed. I'm a die hard Tacoma fan, not necessarily a die hard Toyota fan. The fullsize truck market is, imho, a lot more competitive. After owning two Tacomas, they're bulletproof, have tons of aftermarket support, look great (subjective), but in the end, using it as an actual truck for truck purposes, it falls short. Including fuel mileage. I worked my midsize harder than most do their fullsize trucks, and that's why I'm going fullsize. I just need more capacity. I will, at most, lose 2 mpg.
What are you guys calling a midsized truck and full sized truck? To me a mid sized is a half ton and a full size is a 3/4 or 1 ton. If I'm not mistakes the Tacoma is like a ford ranger right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tacoma is a midsize. I've always liked the Tacoma's, for both looks and functionality. I rarely have a need for a full sized truck, and going full sized would have been another 12-15k for what I was looking for. Fuel mileage isn't much different, I average about 16mpg with 85% city driving. I put about 6-7k on the odo a year, this could very well be the last truck purchase I ever have to make. The reliability and holding their value was a huge factor in my decision.
If gas mileage matters to you, my Colorado crew Z71 with LT31/10.5/15 BFG mud terrain tires averaged 19-21 miles per gallon. My silverado with the same specs (Z71 crew, obviously other than tires 275/60/20 and engine the 5.3) averages 16 mpg, about what the Toyota crew is claiming. Add that difference up over a year and it's a decent amount of money in your pocket.
Ive got 180 on my 06 colorado and the biggest issue ive had with it is a water pump failure. It's been a great little truck I bought it new and went with the ex. cab over the quad cab because I dont have kids and the ex. cab has a longer box. I'm almost ready to buy a new truck and will probably buy the new colorado it's a sweet looking rig!!!
Semantics. Size and capacity wise, many of the "compact" trucks today have larger capacities than the "1/2 tons" of years past. I've rarely heard anyone refer to 1/2 tons as midsize, though :D
I get that men want to avoid the word 'small' or 'compact'. Lol They call Bruce Jenner a woman now too.... But it doesn't make it so. I once went to McDonald's to order a small sundae. They said they only had medium and large. I tried to explain that if you only have two sizes, one of them is not a medium. Of course, this was completely lost on the employee. Sigh... If you don't consider a half-ton mid-sized then what do you call the 3500s and f350s?
I just avoid the term "puny" I've always referenced 4wd exteneded/dual cab models as midsized and compacts/smaller trucks were the regular cab 2wd base models. Happy with mine either way though
Nah. If I was worried about my manliness, I would be driving a 3500 dually with smoke stacks, truck nutz, and a confederate flag hanging in the back. I would still drive my truck even if it was officially a "puny" class vehicle. 1 tons
