Who's doing it? My class schedule is insane this semester. Classes in the morning, then again in the evening. . . but I have afternoons wide open on a couple of days. Is it worth it yet? Climbing into a stand at 11am and hunting until 3 pm?
I would. I've been hunting from dawn to 11:30-12;00ish and then going back out at 3:30-4:00 and not seeing crap. sunday afternoon on the way home I saw a buck standing beside the county road at 2:00. Little &%^$#%^#@$$ was mocking me I think. i'm going to try a few all day sits now.
My all day sits begin this weekend. My work schedule and no Sunday hunting in NC will only allow it 1 day per week though. I think if you have 2-3 hrs to sit in a stand it will be worth it especially for the next few weeks (and if it is close by). Any time spent in the stand is possibly the right time now... besides, what else are you gonna do...sit somewhere else and wonder what you might have seen just if???? Edited here: Man I just realized you put the "EYE CANDY" post up!!! What are you thinking??? You do not need any more motivation than that. I would be there if I only had 1 hr to sit at a time.( Just giving you are hard time) Go get one of those BRUTES!!!!
I will be doing it this weekend. I have vacation in for the end of next week so will probably do it then too. With the buck movement I saw on my farm this past weekend, I definitely think it will be the right time to sit all day. The bucks are really starting to show up now.
I will be sitting most of the day Saturday and the only reason I am not sitting all day is because I am going trick or treating with my kid and then sitting from sun up to sun down Sunday. Next weekend probably the same thing.
LOL! That's good stuff, Tx :D Wolfpack, I hear you man but I only have 2 stands at my "rut location" and I have most of next week off. I'm concerned about being in there too much before the time is right . . . but also, I'm hosting some friends from MO that week and letting them into my honeyhole. I'd love to beat 'em to the punch, if you know what I mean
I'm going to give it a try Saturday or Sunday depending on which wind is best for the spot I'm headed to. This spot has been prime so far this year, but it is a pretty good walk. I'll just pack me some lunch and some water and eat on the stand. Hopefully my big 8 or 10 will venture past me again, except this time they leave with my arrow.
I'm gonna try it again this year. It's extremely hard to do (for me). I get hungry, tired, bored, etc but I do stick it out the days I decide to sit all day. Saw a small buck chasing a doe this PM in a field. Its definitely warming up here...
Mid day - no. But all day sits I think are the bomb, in the next 5-15 days. The rest of the time of the year I don't think they are very productive.
With 3 weekends and 2 fulls days off of work I am using... My all day sits start this weekend. Then taking a whole day off in each of the first two weeks of November. Lucky to say that my employer will be flexible so I can take the best weather days to go.
I am starting this week. Thursday from dark-2pm, Friday from 10am-dark, and Saturday from dark- 2pm. I will be covering the mid-day on all those hunts so we shall see. I think we are a little early here due to the higher temps recently, maybe 7-10 days off before it cranks up. One of the mature bucks I saw last year was cruising around 10:30am, so yes I think being out there for 4 hours in the mid-day can be productive as heck at the right time.
I've already have 5 all day sits in this year. If the wind is consistent, no point in me leaving mid day just to grab some food, i love sitting out there. Starting Saturday i'll be sitting all day for the next two weeks.
Josh, give it a try!!!!!!! Can't kill anything if your not out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you can tuff it out, you may not see anything until the weekend tho???????? its better than not hunting!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck Josh!!!!!!:D
I love all day sits! But I won't start til the 4th or 5th. I will be hunting all day sits for 10 days straight starting around that time and don't wan't to get burned out before the mid day movement really picks up. In my experience mid day sits in October are non productive.
