I am usually pretty hard on sensationalist, agenda seeking, people. However, in this case I simply believe the guy was simply trying to get his sexuality out in the open to get it out of the way so to speak. Football teams and players are highly masculine and if they perceived a gay guy had looked at them in the shower or in the locker room, there might be bring problems unless.......the guy just came out and told people he was gay. Just my take.
If it comes down between him and another player rated the same for a team....the team may choose the other now due to the less PR issues to come....could potentially cost him some but all the analyst say he is an inbetweener so could get drafted could not.
