No question he did it now because he thinks it is in his best interest. However, the possibility exists he felt obliged to because someone else was about to "out" him and he and his agent decided the best defense is a good offense, so to speak, and for the Press to hear it from him first. Obviously, I have no idea what all was happening behind the scenes, but I am pretty sure neither do any of you, so you might want to keep this in mind before trying to determine his motivation for his timing of his outing. My only concern, based on the thread's title, is why Tony seems excited about hearing this news.
They should just be themselves ... I came out as straight on FB this morning and was harassed by others ...
I guess I just don't understand the logic. If it's supposed to be acceptable these days and no big deal.... then why the need for an announcment and draw attention to yourself. In theory it's no different than every straight athlete declaring they are straight and drawing national media attention. You're gay... so be gay. Why feel like you have to explain yourself and then defend yourself? Weird stuff.
Well, at the moment, there are no openly gay athletes in the NFL. He will be the first, although I seriously doubt he will be the only gay athlete in the NFL. Maybe this will help others not try to hide who they are as much?
Bingo... Totally agreed, this is my sentiment when anyone comes out as Gay.... Why do they feel compelled that anyone really cares .... Cause I know I dont give a flying frog fart what he likes in his bed.... He doesn't pay my bills, feed my family or support me.... Not does any of these actors, athletes etc... Who do this for self glorification in the Gay world IMHO.... <+>< Ps 46: 1 ><+>
Brilliant. He's just kill two birds with one stone here, he's bringing attention to himself while at the same time giving the team who drafts him an opportunity to garner publicity for being the "leading example" for looking past sexual preference. This has Tim Tebow publicity written all over it on draft day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the fact that this thread exists, and probably a thread like this exists on 90% of internet message boards right now, proves that people do care in some way
I dont' think care is the right word. I really don't think anyone "cares". It just happens to be in the news like any other story talked about that is current. More like annoyed that it is a story for me.
You would think so. I have a lesbian friend that posts just about everything under the sun about the gay and lesbian movement. She also happens to be a huge Kansas fan, and she hasn't posted one single thing about this. I guess here love for KU is stronger than her passion for the gay and lesbian movement
I think it was smart of him to do this now. Every one is going to talk about it, teams get time to think about how they want to handle it and he can prepare himself for the questions at the combine. His college teammates and friends already knew and someone was going to say something at some point. Having it come out during the combine would have been the only thing they talked about. Now we can hear about all of the players.
