Saw in a intetview last night supposedly he came out because he did to his team in Mizzou and while some scouts were around his teammates mentioned it to them so he decided just to confirm it so there was no speculation. To me its a non issue, but I can see some teams passing because of it.
I suppose this debunks the idea that having an openly gay player on the team will create a huge distraction. Mizzou went 12-2 and he was the Defensive MVP of the SEC this season. His teammates accepted him for who he was, and showed a ton of respect by not leaking it out to the media. I guess I'm glad that someone finally stepped up and did it, so hopefully it will just be a non-issue in the future. I still think it would be strange in the shower and locker room, but I guess Mizzou showed us that it doesn't have to be.
Yeah, I have to switch to threaded or hybrid view and click on each individual response to read them.
It should not be breaking news that an NFL prospect is coming out as gay and it should not hurt the image of the team who drafts him. It's sad that people still think that will be the case.
I don't believe 99% of people give a flying frog's fat butt that some guy came out .... except for the guy in the locker room worried about him looking at his wanker ...it's just the news blowing it out of proportion as usual ... no pun intended
I watched ESPN for an hour at lunch. No mention of Michael Sam, just talks about the Smart fight and the Olympics, so...
So every gay athlete should just stay in the shadows and not come out? and if they do its self serving? Maybe he thought that a gay athlete shouldn't have to hide the fact that he's gay? What athlete these days isn't self serving anyway?
He was already "out". His teammates, his family, everyone already knew he was gay. Making a public announcement on National media is a bit "self serving". But I can understand his reasoning for wanting to get ahead of it and control it, instead of it being rumored for awhile then making an announcement.
