So talking with some hunting buddies we got on the subject of other peoples hunting spots on public land. Many people use ribbons and tacs to get to and from there stands. One of my friends say when the season ends he pulls all of what he sees down to kind of keep an eye on where people hunt from season to season. Do you agree with this being done? I feel both sides but wanted to hear others opinions on this.

I don't think I can add to or subtract from this but just know if I come up on, or glass into another hunter at work I head the other direction and try to keep his or her operation in tact.

He should leave others stuff alone, even if it is only reflective tacks and ribbon. Who is he to keep tabs on others? It's a bit out of line IMO.

I leave them alone. I've had my tacs that mark just my tree pulled off. I wasn't happy about it. So, I tried hiding them or not tagging/tacking but got turned around pretty good because of it.

I don't use them and do not see the reason to but then some do not spend a lot of time in the woods so they think they need them. If hunters use them the least that they could do is to take them down after season is over. Leaving them is littering. Some hunters never return so it takes time for the ribbons to decay. If I find them after season I take them down.
If hunters need to have a trail to get into the stands why not use a GPS?

Some public lands do not allow the tacks and ribbons. I would never mess with a spot like a camera or treestand during season. If it is something illegal then I will notify the proper authority.

That was part of what we talked about is so many ribbons all over and many prob are years old that do not get used but I normally leave them but I hear many others take them down when season is out though too.

Wouldnt placing those tags be littering? They arent biodegradable. I agree to leave them alone but I also see it as littering.

I don't mess with that stuff, or anything I find on public land.

I have used tacks in the past in really thick areas to mark the best path to keep from making too much noise.

I suppose this would fall under hunter ethics and post season housekeeping. If the season is over then cleaning up would be in order. Who does it matters little but it should be done regardless.

Also, GPS would be better for waypoints than leaving ribbons all over the place.

I use bright eyes to find my way in the dark.A gps would work but would take me through every thicket on the way.I cut a narrow walking trail putting up bright eyes all the way to my stand.I don't consider that littering. They would be almost impossible to see in daylight unless you know where to look.I don't mess with any one else's ribbon or tacks.I will take old ribbon down if it is evident that it is no longer in use by someone.I will use my bright eye trails season after season.

I have no problem with him taking his down but don't think he should touch anyone elses stuff. If they don't take them down I think that is wrong also but not for your buddy to decide or do

Yea we came to this and then was wondering if there were no people taking other peoples ribbons down then the public lands would be flooded with these things. I dont like when people leave these things all over the place but I dont like to be the guy taking it down. I guess it is what it is and some people will pull them down for everyone after the season.

I'm on the littering bandwagon. I am so tired of seeing everyone's crap left in the woods on teir so called hunting area. Sorry folks I hunt on state land, it belongs to everyone... Some peoples hunting camps are just left to the next year...WRONG! I could go on and on about this subject, but I won't. Instead of tearing a guys navigation down, let's do some educating so people take down what they put up.

I try to keep my spots a secret on public land. I hike in the dark with no markers or a light. It's amazing how well you can see once your eyes adjust!

Hello..........some people just plain can't read! SEASON IS OVER! Police up the area you have hunted in. Remove ALL trash....flagging tape and reflective markers ARE TRASH. Repeat...SEASON IS OVER.
