A good friend of mine had an encounter with an injured buck on the ground yesterday. He was changing his card in his trail camera and walking back to the stand he was going to sit in. All of the sudden a big buck jumped up out of his bed and tried to run off. Then the buck fell down and got back up. He ran about 20 feet and tried to hide in some thick brush. So my buddy moved in closer to take a look. Thats when he really realized the buck was hurt. So he drew back and waited for a clean shot . After about 15 minutes he got one. The buck fell off of a small ledge into the river and started to float away. So we got a boat and found him laying by a sand bar. We pulled him out and thats when we realized how big he was. He was about 6 years old and green scored about 149 6/8. We got to the house and saw a shotgun wound in one shoulder that was from last weekend. Then saw he had an infection in one of his front legs where it looked like he had been hit by a car. Once we opened him up i found a blood clot in his heart with bone fragments and pieces of a slug. He was a tuff big old buck that will be honored for our lifetime at a minimum.

glad his suffering was shortened a little, thanks for the story! we don't call shotguns gangarene guns for nothing.
Its amazing what a whitetail can endure, was he able to save any of the meat or was the infection set in pretty bad?
Thats a great story and ending of a deer suffering is right up there in my book as to what a hunter should be. Sometimes it's are duty to kill a injured deer even if it cost me a tag, been there done that.
