A good friend of mine had an encounter with an injured buck on the ground yesterday. He was changing his card in his trail camera and walking back to the stand he was going to sit in. All of the sudden a big buck jumped up out of his bed and tried to run off. Then the buck fell down and got back up. He ran about 20 feet and tried to hide in some thick brush. So my buddy moved in closer to take a look. Thats when he really realized the buck was hurt. So he drew back and waited for a clean shot . After about 15 minutes he got one. The buck fell off of a small ledge into the river and started to float away. So we got a boat and found him laying by a sand bar. We pulled him out and thats when we realized how big he was. He was about 6 years old and green scored about 149 6/8. We got to the house and saw a shotgun wound in one shoulder that was from last weekend. Then saw he had an infection in one of his front legs where it looked like he had been hit by a car. Once we opened him up i found a blood clot in his heart with bone fragments and pieces of a slug. He was a tuff big old buck that will be honored for our lifetime at a minimum. I would add a pic to the thread if i knew how. I can add it to my pics if you care to see it.
great ethical move by your buddy, and then following down the river is a first class thing to do. i wish all outdoorsmen and women had this same fiber!
The only pics i have right now are from my phone. I put those on here. Last year i shot a buck and jumped in the same river around the same spot to recover him. Every deer we take as hunters deserves to be treated wirh respect and as if it was your best trophy.
interesting, i can see where you posted them, but it's just showing a blank post on my screen, no pic is showing. I agree with you 100%, and I think that too many people out there don't commit to the full recovery process before they decide to take a shot on a animal.
if you have a iphone you can get the photobucket app on it and upload the pic on there than post the link here.
That is a nice looking buck. It's good to see someone being able to put a tag on a nice buck that they put out of their missery due to some other hunters miss judgement.
the pictures really dont do him justice. his main beams are R25 4/8 L26 2/8 cir is almost a consistant 5 1/8 all the way up ill post more pics once i get them from my buddy
Hopefully this works out better than my other attempts. Please let me know if it does. Here is a link to photobucket. http://s1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc454/m_pearce3571/
