MLB (and NFL, NBA, NHL) is an entertainment business, not so much a sport.

$ determines where players go more than any other factor by far.

The Yankees have been able to sign many big free agents in the past because they have deep pockets...not because it's every players dream to play in he pin strips.

    $$$$ > Rings.

He had a chance for a mega pay day. His career is set for the next 10 years. To assume he would still be healthy after 7 years, and good enough to get another big pay day is a huge risk. Take a look back at all 10 year deals...the players are the ones laughing.

I wouldn't sleep on the Mariners either. They have some good young pieces in Seager, Zunino, Walker, and of course King Felix. If they get another impact bat in there, there's a good chance for this team to be solid.

10-15 yes. Why is it a stretch? The Yankees just signed Beltran to 3 year 45 million. Jeter made 17 million last year (playing 17 games)... 12 million this year (at age 40). You're right maybe it is a stretch. It will probably be more in 7 years.

Apparently Cano has proven you wrong. The fact you seen unable to grasp why someone might want to play somewhere other than NY doesn't mean its not happening.

I can assure you he would much rather be playing in NY. He didnt WANT to... he chose to for the money the Yankees wouldn't offer him.

That's not how you posed the entire situation.

    Your original quite:

"Why on Gods green earth would you leave the yankees to play in Seattle? You're making essentially the same over the next 7 years of your career."

If someone would "MUCH rather play in NY", then they would play in NY regardless of the $.

Yes... over the next 7 years. The contract mariners offered goes for 3 more. Hence.... more money.

Do you think if the Yankees and mariners contracts were identical he would've went to Seattle?
