For those of you who proudly fly the flag in your yards, please take the time in the morning to put them at half staff in memory of those who gave their lives for this great country.

Then, if everyone could take a moment to remember those fallen heroes Memorial Day will be a great one.

Other than myself, who knows the origin of this holiday? Pretty cool story.

I don't, actually. But I'm gonna go do some google research and find out. I've been pretty fortunate in that while I know, and have several family members who were, active military, I've not lost any of them. My Grandfather was shot twice in WWII but survived to tell about it. In fact, he always joked with us about his "second belly button." My dad was drafted and set to go to Vietnam, but a bizzare series of events sent him to Germany instead. My step dad served 1 tour in "Nam", and he's got some horror stories of lost buddies for sure. But fortunately he suffered no injuries.

My hat's off to each and every one of our military, both active and retired, and especially grateful to those who have fallen. And almost even more so to those who have been wounded and will never fully recover. One of the most moving things I've ever done was to visit the Traveling Wall (replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall) with my step dad....it really was incredible.

The freedoms that they have afforded me is almost overwhelming at times. I hope to someday, when we've all left this world and have all of eternity to do it, meet each and every one and shake their hand. To you, Coop, and to each and every one of our Military I say thank you.
