What is better? More megapixels like 8.0 or less megapixels like 3.0. I'm fix'n to be in the market for a trail cam. My budget is in the $200 range.
More megapixels the sharper the image is when zooming in, more detail you'll be able to see. In my opinion more is always better!
Really unless you plan on blowing the picture up to a large size, say like 11x16 or something, you don't need a really high mp camera. Most computers can't display more than 4mp so they reduce it anyway. Where the higher mp comes in handy is if you are going to make giant sized prints, which most of us are not going to do. Also if you like posting pics to the websites, as I do, photobucket and the other photo storage sites reduce the size anyway because the sites your loading them to have a limited amount of space. Probably 4-5mp is about all you need. Most trail cameras do not have the actual mp count they advertise anyway. They accomplish that count through a process called interpolation. I'm not going to explain that one, you'll have to look it up. There are so many varibles involved in a good pic. Don't get hung up on mp count alone. Hope this helps in your decision.
