So, I went out to hang my last stand today, and in the process managed to cut my knee, my underarm, and stick the back of my hand with a good sized locust thorn. The latter is my problem. The thorn went in and right back out. I don't think it broke off inside, and it wasn't too awfully deep. Almost immediately, however, my hand was sore like I had hit it on something (feels much like a bruise). After an hour or so, my hand swelled up, and has stayed swollen ever since. It's quite uncomfortable to open and close my hand, but I can do it. There's no sign of red streaking or redness in general, and I know honey locust isn't poisonous, but I'm not sure that's what it was (I honestly didn't look to closely). I was only ever stuck with a thorn once, and that stayed above my kneecap for a few years with no issue. The swelling and soreness has me baffled. Anyone else experienced this type of a reaction after being stuck with a thorn?

Oh, and just in case some suggests it, I plan to make an appointment tomorrow if necessary to check it out:)

Do you have life insurance???? Just kidding.

If you have reasonable health insurance I would head in and see the doc. If it's going to cost you an arm and a leg I would try some other methods. Did you happen to try google or Web Md??

Honey Locust thorns have done that too me many times in the past. I now avoid hanging a stand in them at all costs. In my case, the swelling and soreness went away after a day or so.

I'd do this tonight and I bet you will cancel the doctor appt. If you don't see a difference in the AM, then the doc may be warranted.

Thanks, guys. Still pretty sore, but the swelling looks like it might have stopped for now. Hopefully it's receding. I

MGH, you are going to experience a Spiderman type phenomenon this year in the woods. You and the honey locust are now one. Your senses will heighten, your hunting prowess will swell, and when your honey locust sense goes off, pick up your bow and get ready!

Hey now:poke::D I never experienced that sort of reaction to a thorn before, though. It took two days for the swelling and redness to start to go down. My hand is still a little sore, but it's getting better.

Get some cuts and get some gar blood and slime in 'em. That's a nifty experience too. :D

Cut my finger open last year on a deer's spine when hanging it up...I spent A LOT of time cleaning that one out.

Gar have special properties to swell up any area of broken skin.
There's probably money to be made with it as an 'enhancement' supplement. A guy would probably need to take a cheese grater to himself first.... but put some gar goo on it and I bet even Smilin' Bob would be jealous. :D

I checked 'whole body' on the donation form. I bet they don't want it.

Having seen some of things that people do to themselves and cause them to need to be seen in the ER... I'm telling you, there are some that would try it.
