Do Mechanical Broadheads really shoot like field points? I have some Grim Reapers and Shwackers and don't really want to dull them by shooting my target.
Sorry. I dont know about either of those, but I know Rages do. I am betting you will be very close if off at all, but I would still stronlgy advise shooting any broadhead that you are going to hunt with before you actually hunt with it. god luck!
Always shoot your BH's before hunting with them, it will give you the added confidence to make a good shot.
Most Broadheads these days do indeed shoot like their field point counterpart, however I agree with everyone else in this thread. You owe it to the animal to shoot them a few times in order to be sure.. many companies now have practice blades that come in the pack for this specific purpose.
The only way to know for sure is to shoot them. I would just practice with one of the heads to make sure they fly ok with your bow and then use the brand new ones when you go hunting.
The Grim Reapers should of came with a practice head in the pack , and they do sell them in 3 packs , i found they fly exactly like the actual heads i had shot two to make sure and they do , i had resharpened them and put them up till season .
I agree with others that you owe it to the deer to shoot one to make sure they fly the same. It's 8 bucks? And most of those heads come with practice heads.
The 2 blade, 2 inch, pack of Rages that I bought have a practice point. I put the practice point on three different arrows and made sure they all shot ok, then changed out to the real ones. I found that with the practice point I could actually shoot a little better than I could with the field points. I haven't shot a deer with one yet but just looking at it, I think I had rather be shot with a 45 than a Rage broad head.
I shot Grim Reapers for a few seasons and they do fly with my field points. But you absolutely have to practice with those things before you go hunting. You owe it to the animal and you owe it to bowhunting. Blessings......Pastorjim
I shot Grim Reapers for 5 years before switching to Rage this year, only reason I switched is because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with the Rage heads. The Reapers are good heads, I have killed 6 deer with them and never had to track further then 100 yards. But i agree with everyone else, I definately would practice with them. I usually practice with my broadheads on haybales and foam they dont dull as badly and wont damage them. Then sharpen them and go to town. I cant speak for the Swacker. I do have a question tho, I always put a very small rubber band on my mechanicals, be it my Reapers, or the Rages.... I like the extra little security to hold the blades closed untill the point of impact. I use the tiny ones kinda like the rubber bands that someone with braces would use. But now I cant find them anywhere and Im about to run out. Anybody have any suggestions?
With the quality of the products out there today you should be right on. I however have not used GR or the Swhacker broadheads. I have used Rage 2 blade, Trophy Ridge Undertaker, Slick Trick Grizz Trick, and Redhead Gator broadheads without adjust my Extreme 4 pin site. That speaks volumes to me that I can shoot field points and 4 different broadheads and not adjust anything. However, I would never shoot at an animal with something I have never shot at a target. It doesn't make sense and if you miss and animal, that memory will hurt a lot more than dropping another $40 on a pack of extra broadheads.
LOVE MY REAPERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, they shoot just like field points... And YES, I shoot everyone of them before they ever make it to my quiver !!!! One shot into a foam block target is not going to dull the blades !!!!!!
I have shwacker broadheads and they fly identical to my field points! But what I did to shoot them at the target is I took a tiny strip of electrical tape and wrapped it around the forward part of the ferrule so the blades don't come out and it worked great!
