as title says, wondering if a meat mixer is worth the expense. Have always mixed by hand, but general also normally done small batches.

coming up I'll be doing about 30-40 pounds at once while making brats and sausage and contemplating getting a small mixer

I have one. Honesly i am 50/50 if i woudl recommend it even for the amounts your talking about. For the amounts you use it its one more thing to store and keep clean. Cleaning them is no small task after use as well. It does mix well and its nice to not have frozen hands....

We do about three to four hundred pounds of sommerwurst and brats every year. 200Ib mixer totally worth it! Lol. However, for small batches under 50Ib's I would just hand mix. When I do 30Ib batches of weisswurst and nuremberg brats I used one of those grey "bus tubs", I think they are 22"×16"? Plus, you have to be careful with mechanical mixer. If you overmix it makes the sausage chewy and they are a lot more to clean vs the tub.
