    Hi,

I have a Hoyt charger hunting bow which has an ATA of 31". On measuring, the ATA is out by 1/4" or 5mm. Is this something that I should be concerned about and how do I exactly measure the ATA. I measured it from centre of both Cam pins.

The bow was shooting Ok before and I didnt not even the ATA was out. Do I need o take out twists from both control cables (not the yoke) to get it back to factory specs. At the same time i will replacing the existing custom string with a new custom made one.

    Cheers

As far as I know, most bows have a listed ATA but it has a leeway that still pretty much keeps it in spec. All I have ever dealt with is 2 cam bows so not exactly sure as twisting to get it on the money. If it was shooting good and felt good then it may not need to be exact.

The first thing I would do is make sure your limbs are maxed out poundage wise when measuring. Bow specs are always measured with the limbs fully cranked down (for example if they are turned out 3 turns, your ATA measure can be different). Then I would check the cam timing. You can either use a draw board OR simply draw the bow slowly (and have someone else watch) the last inch or two of the draw cycle and make sure the little rubber stops on the cams are touching the string at the same time. If one is touching before the other, then based on the fact it sounds like you are long, I would tighten the opposite end of the cable until your cam rubber stops are hitting at the same time (shouldn't need much) - believe it's the opposite end anyway - going off memory - always easier when you are doing it... If you have to add any twists, that should get your ATA measurement pretty darn close...
