I saw this yesterday. It's a great breakthrough for this state. I doubt it will happen overnight but it gives me hope.

 

I hope that evil NRA didn't have anything to do with this.

 

What? They don't have to show a 'need' or 'reason' to own a handgun?? What's next? Not having to show a need or reason to own a 30 round magazine?????

 

Ask the parents of all the kids killed in school shootings what the need or reason for a 30 round clip is. Can you think of one? Would you like to be the one to tell them?

 

Fletch, talking like that is using scare tactics. The 30 round clip did not kill anyone, the lunatic that wielded the gun did the killing.

I can. To protect ourselves from not only the evil persons out there, but from our own government if need be. That being said, I don't own an assault rifle and the only semi-automatic weapons I have are a few handguns.

 

So why cant private citizens posess fully automatic weapons? Afterall, its not the gun that kills people. Now, give me a real reason for needing a 30 round clip and I will gladly reconsider my thoughts on this. If you really think you need a 30 round clip to protect yourself from your own government, then the NRA has done a great job of marketing on you. Please tell me that you dont believe that. I wonder how many kids would still be alive today if lunatics did not have easy access to weaponry that seems to serve no useful purpose? If it is only One child, then we have failed already.

 

Awesome for MD!!! How messed up is it that, in Illinois we can't carry a concealed weapon even if we have the most compelling reason known to man, but in Maryland (and many other states) you can carry for any reason, or no reason. 49 other states can't be right, can they?

 

a reason for a 30 round clip? Let me think............... ............. OH I remember now! Because it is a free country! (or used to be) and If someone wants a 30 round clip then they have the right to do own one. VS is correct it was the Lunatics weilding the guns not the guns themselves. Having or not having a 30 round clip is not going to keep these lunatics from walking into ______________ and start shooting. Our society has become way to compliant, kids can't climb trees they might get hurt, whatever, my point is that if you think that you controlling guns is going to make america safer you have lost your mind, case in point the war on drugs, (yeah we win it, Right) and Prohibition. if you outlaw guns (or accessories) only outlaws will own guns.

By this same logic, since automobiles kill FAR more people than firearms each year, we should ban all automobiles, right? Sure they have other uses, but some (insane, drunk, reckless - choose your adjective) people can and will use it to take lives.

About 15 miles from where I live, an 18 year old kid and his buddies were drinking, then got in their car to come back to town. The kid failed to negotiate a curve, flipped his car, killed 2 and severely injured another. If he had not had access to a vehicle then this whole terrible business could have been avoided, and I can easily identify 2 people (maybe 3, the one is not out of the woods yet) who would still be alive.

I think we can all see the fallacy of your argument. Having a 30 round magazine (the proper term - not "clip") does not make the weapon a more effective killing machine. I myself actually prefer a 20 round mag on my weapon. A weapon is just a tool. It is the intent (for good or evil) of the user that determines how the tool is used.

 

The Second Amendment doesn't require a need.

No 10 round, 20 round or 30 round magazine has gotten up and gone off and killed people by itself. It's not the magazine. It's not the gun. It the person. It's that simple.
Oh, and people can and do own fully automatic weapons.

But if you're willing to gut the 2nd Amendment, don't forget all those others that are even worse..

How many kids have been killed in alcohol related 'accidents'? There's certainly no need for alcohol... Throw out the 21st Amendment and bring back the 18th!!

How many terrible criminals go free because of that pesky Fourth Amendment? Tell all those families of crime victims that we 'need' to have things like warrants and reasons for search and seizure.

How many murders get off because that darn Fifth Amendment and it's requirement for due process? I'm sure there are plenty of grieving families that would like to apply their own justice and don't see a 'need' for a double jeopardy or protection against self-incrimination. Or that blasted Sixth Amendment and it's need for a trial and worse... the need for a lawyer for the accused. Just think how many more criminals would never be free again if it weren't for lawyers...

Of course, one we get rid of all that stuff, we can throw out the Eighth Amendment and get down to some good cruel and unusual punishment. Maybe drop people feet first into giant grinders. Prove that we need to be nice to them.

I could go on... trust me.

 

When I was shot in the back while home on leave in 1984. It was an 8 shot .22 revolver. But the shooter had been to jail for not 1 murder but 3 murders as a youthful offender.

I say enforce the ****ing death penalty!

By the way his jail sentence for shooting me was 6 months in jail and he was back on the streets. It's comments like yours that really chaff my azz man!

The NRA has not done anything to me, I am not a member nor do I watch any of their commercials. No, I do not really feel threatened by my own government, however I could see where others might and it is their right to own weapons to protect themselves. I will not stop their right to bear arms.

then you must agree that the small sample of things pictured below are much more dangerous and are just as preventable as assault weapons....

If you do then we must protect the kids by eliminating them....

this is totally eerie, we just had a shooting at a school here in Jax. No students hurt but two people have been shot.

 

I agree, driving with your steering wheel on the passenger side of the car is dangerous.

You mean 30 round magazine not clip as clips usually are for hair. A 30 round magazine has it's uses, however, guns, knives, explosives (should we outlaw 20 gal propane tanks like the ones in columbine?) do not belong in schools. Better yet let's focus on removing the drugs, rape, and alcohol (which kill more kids than 30 round magazines) from our schools.
