I read alot about this guy. Sounds like the type of guy needed there. Not sure about his COIN plan. I say he did resign before getting fired.

Best thing blama could do is not accept his resignation and treat it as, he wants the truth, not just people that likes him, bla bla.

My vote for replacement is General Mattis...USMC. Currently the Commander at Joint Forces Command and sadly just passed over for Commandant.

Man is a damn fine warrior.

I was in the corps when Clinton went into office, I was stationed in somalia at the time. I know what its like to have no respect for the commander in chief (obviously no where close to the relationship between a general and the president),It is hard to serve under someone who has never wore a uniform and actually has disdain for the military.

as much as I don't care for obama, mcchrystal was in the wrong and his aides should have been b!tchslapped for leaking that stuff... personally I think to big of a deal was made about it, but it doesn't negate the fact that he was wrong...

Yeah, McChrystal was out of line. Tho' he really didn't say much bad, he shouldn't be telling reportors any of that stuff and have better control over what his aides told the reporters.
Is he really that frustrated that this was calculated? Or was it just poor judgement?

But the real question is.... Did Obama keep him?

Lots of great generals from MacArthur, to Patton, were out of line.

We live in a new world (has been way before Obama was put in office) where strong men and women cannot speak their minds without possible censorship or loss of employment. The days where men spoke the truth are over....we want little robots whom we can easily control, men that they will put on the altar as soon as they speak the truth or exhibit any sign of testosterone. It truly is a sad state of affairs in our country these days.

I don't know about that Sliver.. Look at all the out of line statements/out of protocol things that have said/done by O's hand picked folks. (and Obama himself.. )

This administration needs a serious bunch of protocol advisors.

Not the same. If one of Gen. McChrystals subordinates had done the same to him they could be cracking rocks at Leavenworth. He knows he was wrong and is the reason he spent most of yesterday trying to get his lips on as much butt as he possably could.

We must not confuse Military Law with Political Rhetoric.

Did you read the article Sliver? I didn't see much that could be considered subordination and certainly nothing that was grounds for a court martial.

...and obviously it's not the same since most of the Obama appointees still have a job despite their gaffes and lack of ability. ;)

what Mcchrystall did was wrong militarily, at the same time Obama is the most unqualified person in the history of this country to ever command the armed forces. We were always taught that respect is earned, it does not come with the title. The fact that he is in charge of the military eventhough he loathes its presence makes me sick.

If it were me, I would make him fire my ass, no way i would let him off easy by resigning. What difference does it really make. Now he can work for FOX News as an analyst.
