I wasn't going to take this buck at first, but everything was just too perfect. I was on my 4th sit of the season, it was nice a cool out and the wind was absolutely perfect. I picked up the horns and gave some "sparring" w/ a little bit of soft grunting, at about 6:45pm last Monday. About 20 seconds into my sequence, I see some bone appear about 120 yards to my right. He was at the edge of a field and began raking the hell out of tree. I put down the gadgets and picked up my bow, banking that he was heading my way at some point. It took him about 5 minutes to finally reach my effective range, where he lolly-gagged for another 5 minutes... I hung my bow back on the tree as he approached, figuring that he's not real big and it's way early in the season. But as I picked up my phone and began filming him, I couldn't help but get drawn into the character of his rack. A 3-way split on one brow, with a kicker coming off of the other. I could also tell that this buck had a little more age on him than I had initially guessed. He was mature and big bodied! It was a split second decision to go ahead and put down the phone, pick up the bow (again) and go Fred Eichler on this big boy... he's not going to score real high, but I have zero regrets! He was about 250 lbs, field dressed.
