I never thought I would be asking this question, but here it goes.

With my change in career I will be doing a lot more driving and am contemplating getting rid of my truck. Its a 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500 Crew Cab with a Duramax Diesel. I absolutely love the truck, but if I plan on doing a lot of driving, it doesn't make sense filling it constantly with 25 gallons of diesel that will probably be around $4 a gallon this summer. I'll still be able to pull trailers with Jill's suburban, just not as heavy as with my truck.

Now, I haven't driven a car but maybe once in the last 10 years and haven't owned one in probably 13 or 14 years, so I am out of the loop as far as what cars are out there. After doing a lot of looking the last few days, I have kind of narrowed it down to 3 choices....
    Toyota Camry Hybrid
    Ford Fusion Hybrid
    Volkswagen Jetta TDI

Right now the front runner is the VW. I like the idea of the little turbo diesel.

    So, any suggestions or advice?

You couldn't go wrong with either. I hear a lot of good from all. Sorry to hear about having to sell your truck but these gas prices suck a big one! Good luck.

I really don't have to sell it, and may not. Its just that a car would be a little more economical and I could still pull smaller trailers with my wife's suburban.

Sounds like a plan Joe. FTR, my kids will also be going to a Private School.....that way I can avoid them being taught by self absorbed Union teachers with a political agenda they wish to push on my kids. ;)

Career change Dan? No more guiding? As far as a car, you and I are allot alike there. Haven't owned a car In years but I've heard good things about the Ford cars.

Dan, have ya thought about keeping the truck and getting a nicer used vehicle? What do you currently use the truck for that you will miss it?

I have never driven one, but I have always thought those little diesel VW cars are kick ass. Especially if it was a 5 or 6 speed manual. I have been in love with diesels for the past couple years for some reason

I'm turning the camp over to my older brother starting this year. I'll still be up there some, but I'm ready for a change. I have to opportunity to expand my clothing company, Rut Junkie Apparel, this year and make it grow. I can't do it from camp, so I'm backing down.

I'm extremely excited about the future, its just going to be a big change.

I'd buy the one that was the most comfortable.

No real need to keep the truck, if I get a car. The only thing I use it for that I would really miss it is pulling bigger trailers and a 37' 5th wheel. But, I'm tired of pulling the 5th wheel and that will probably go down the road too. If I need a diesel to pull a bigger trailer, I can just use my brother's.

My plan is to buy a used car, not new. With the equity in my truck, I would be able to get a pretty nice used and have it nearly paid off with that equity.

My wife is one of those teacher:)

If you are going private be sure to pop in on them for a tour. I have sent Hillary to private school will share what I did right and what I did wrong.

As for a car the fusion is a nice ride. I would not hesitate. To buy one

I went to 12 years of private school. I know the ones here like the back of my hand.....and the teachers too.

I'll be giving all of them a test drive. Thanks Gary.

Good luck, Dan. I'm in a similar situation as I'm looking to make a job change and a longer drive. My van is killing me on fuel, so I need to figure something out instead.

I've been looking at a Ford Focus myself. Out of my league right now. But, definitely something I'm looking at. Although, those VW TDI's I've been hearing a lot about as well.
