I shoot Carbon Express and have been thinking about buying a dozen Maxima Red's, but there is one big thing stopping me at this point... they are red. I just don't know if I like the thought of a red arrow while trying to see blood. I know the staff has been shooting these and I was wondering if you thought seeing blood on these arrows was any different than a standard carban express arrow? I know it isn't all red, but just want some take on this before deciding which arrow to buy for sure. Thanks!
Hasn't been an issue that I'm aware of. Since we're using both lighted nocks and filming our hunts it's rarely a question where we hit the animal. Plus you still have a good 4-5 inches of black shaft before the red to look at.
More than anything I am worried about seeing air bubbles. I guess worse case is the fletching should always show what the arrow shows.
Knowing if there is blood isn't my worry. More knowing everything the blood can show about what was all hit while passing through.
I use CE REDS with white fletch and wjite wraps. Here is a photo from a recent kill. I will post a clean arrow photo later.
I really want the CR Reds but also want the Easton Axis N Fused. Before I spend a ton of money, does anyone or the BHOD Pro Staff know if they will come out with a new arrow for 2014. If so, when?
I posted about this a few weeks ago. At that time, I shot a doe and could not recover her partly blaming the red arrow for not being able to assess the blood. Since then I dropped a button buck on a pass through. Red arrow was NO problem and the arrows fly perfectly red or not. Conclusion... my first shot on the doe was bad, barely touching her. My second, a much better shot showed everything on the arrow that I needed. Good luck, T
I don't use Maxima Reds but I fletch my arrows with white quickfletch and so far that has been just enough to tell me what I need to know. I usually check the fletchings, rub my finger on the arrow and inspect the blood, give the arrow a quick sniff, and then rely on the blood trail for the rest. Probably not the best method but it works for me.
Well I shoot gold tip, Got the ones that were camo I'm thinking oh nice and cool looking until I took a shot at a doe last year. Good luck finding your arrow if you don't have your nocks lit up. Anyway I don't think red is as bad as full on camo arrows. As far as telling the story if you make like a gut shot you will definitely smell it.
