I'm just curious. I've got a week of vacation to take, and can take it either next week or the week after. I don't have any specific shooter bucks patterned, but know that at least one exists on the 1000ish acres I'll be hunting that weekend.

Is anyone starting to see any/more mature buck activity yet? What are your thoughts.....next week or the week after knowing I don't have any specific bucks pinned down or patterned.

Based on my history - I'd go for week of 8th-12th.

Either way should be good - Good Luck!

Next week they should be on their feet and seeking. The week after is what I consider the best week out there. Since you don't have a buck patterned then I would go with 2 weeks from now. Who knows what will come threw then. Check the weather and weight your options. If I was you, I hold out till the week of the 8th.

If I had to put all my eggs in one basket I would take your one week vacation in two weeks.

Nothing brewing yet, hoping by the end of the week should have more bucks checking scrapes during shooting light!

I would have rather had the week after off but I put in for next week earlier in the year. Hopefully I'll still be ok.

This past week I saw 3 bucks on afternoon hunts, but they were only 1.5 and 2.5 year olds.

Give it a couple weeks here in Illinois.

Only small/young bucks moving during the day here in Iowa also. Seeing lots of does ... no bucks following yet. Thinking a couple weeks should be primetime.

Seen 2 mature bucks during day time hours (shot one). Had a 130" 10 pt. yesterday morning at 15 yards. However if I only had one week I agree with everyone else. November 6th through 12th time I really love.

As Gri22 pointed out, it depends on how you want to hunt...

Do you want to hunt cruising bucks that are working scrapes and scent checking, or do you want to hunt chasing, erratic bucks who could go into lockdown if he finds an estrous doe?

Exactly. I've hunted 4 times Matt and saw one mature buck, It was my 1st sit of the year and It was 2 hours before dark but I was also with In 60 yards of his bed If that.

My trail cams are telling me that the 3.5 year olds are out and about during daylight hours In the evenings and In the mornings close to their bedding areas.

Scott, does that mean you favor next week over the week of the 8th?

I'm in the same boat as RJ...next week or week after? Nov 9th has always been awesome for me.

    Two trains of thought...

If I am hunting highly pressured bucks the week after. If I am hunting moderately pressured whitetail I am taking the first week.

According to a couple of studies I have seen for MD deer, the peak conception dates center around the 10th of November.
